I don't think price of Wii U devkits is the issue here....but its a start. Good job Nintendo!

I think for Indie and small developers it is a huge issue.

The devkits cost over $20k.

Well if indies are getting free devkits then it is a huge plus. But indie developers generally  have a small staff and limited resources so if given the option to make a PS4 game or a Wii U game, which will they choose?

They choose PC and then do a console release 6 months to a year later.

I guess you didn't catch the memo, Wii U & PS4 and very PC friendly (correct if I'm wrong about Wii U). So expect some release on same time and some release couple weeks later.

Wii U isn't "very PC dev friendly". This goes in terms of ease-of-development and technical limitations.
It really is just another console.

Make sense, ever since both Nintendo and Sony announce unity and other engines. A crap load of indies games were announce for both consoles. Sony could come out on top if Nintendo don't change their buisness practice because no one don't want to see Nintendo go under because it'll be a lack of compitition in the industry, Xbox....idk. Honestly, I can see both Wii U and PS4 in the lead ,but who knows, Xbox could end up taking the lead.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Wii U obviously. Much larger install base and with a free dev kit (which I thought they were anyway), it just means less risk.

Though PC multiplatform would be the best way to go, like Toki Tori, Runner 2 and others.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

All I'll say is:

It's true, and it isn't limited to indie devs.

I hope Nintendo can get more 3rd party developers. I would hate to see the WiiU go the way of the Wii in terms of support

They better do it, it is a nice gesture that save the devs some precious budget money and doesn´t cost that much to NINTENDO anyways.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

A very good thought and move! News games are on their way!

I only heard about one story where an Indie developer was getting it for free. If it`s being offered to more, so much the better. Couple that with the easy transition of iOS games and it`s looking good for Wii U.

Well Ps4 isn't even released yet so yeah Wii U does have a "much larger install base" lmfao. I think an indie game is a risk on ANY platform and on a Nintendo platform the risk is even higher considering the fanbase tends to only buy the Mario games and such.

this isn't going to have any effect. Install base is the only thing that matters.
