Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should Microsoft give up in Japan?

On the most recent Game Scoop on IGN they brought up the fact Xbox as a brand hasn't been able to get a foot hold in Japan. The 360 as it is now will sell less than the original Xbox over there. So after 10 years should they give up or keep trying? What do you guys/girls think?

I may come off as trolling, but I really am not when I say this. YES don't even bother with Japan. Japanese gamers don't care about wasting money on online when other services provide better and for FREE. There is no diversity in the 360's catalog/library of games im sorry for anyone who does not want to read this, but it's a fact. There's a reason why it's basically dead in Japan and Europe is dominated by PS3.

There is just little reason for the Japanese to buy an Xbox branded system. Sony and Nintendo will always have more Japanese developer support and Kinect isn't exactly suited for average Japanese dwellings. Microsoft tried to buy some niche Japanese exclusives but they weren't enough to force most people into buying another system.

Microsoft isn't going to leave the Japanese market but it would surprise me if they continued to pour money into it the way they did with the 360.

Yes, 'cause I don't think MS has the 'tools' to compete in Japan. A more powerful console is not going to cut it so I think they should at least focus on the US and Europe for now until they develop or buy the kinds of games Japanese gamers want and can get no place else.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

I'm sorry to come off harsh but these kind of Ignorant statements sometimes pisses me off. XBOX360 has tons of JRPG, tons of multi-plats that performs better on it compared to PS3, in the shooters department PS3 is not even gonna step on the ring, Arcade titles the same , it has better peripherials when it comes to gamepad and movement recognition hardware. Xbox Live... well Japanese gamers buy bunch of generic crap all year long for full price then in your logic they bitch about $40 year for the best online service in the console market. When it comes to Europe, I put it simply they bought the PS3 because the PS brand is a urban legend. And XBOX in the eyes of many is "Muhrica" and they don't like that. Europe is a place where Fifa and Pes stay on the op 10 charts most of the year and Japan is a place where generic JRPG to anything stamped Pokemon down to the weirdest Tamagochi type games stay on the top 10 all year long and then you talk about diversity.

They made strides with the 360. In addition, the new Kinect supposedly has no motor and a much wider angle, making it less space consuming.

Some genres like old-school shmups are owned by the 360 in Japan. In addition, it has a loyal following for visual novels and gamers who like Western-style games.

Mega stores like Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera still have sizeable 360 sections, so it must be selling enough. Essentially every single local game store also carries it to varying degrees.

There is a also a decent-sized import scene where stores like Sofmap carry lots of European and US 360 titles.

I see no reason why they shouldn't release it.

MS needs to change their headquarters to Japan and it will a great nationalist support from the Japanese.

The first two sentances are irrelevant stop babbling. Stay on topic, aynways Generic crap explain what is generic crap lol that they buy please elaborate. Europe is a place where Fifa stay on the top true, but Gran Turismo is also popular in Europe you basically just babled and said nothing relevant. 360 has no interesting games IMO Americans are suckers when it comes to anything and I can vouch because im American we buy CoD every year knowing it's the same im glad knowing CoD sells more on 360 then it does PS3,but even then IDK why you bought up the fact that multiplats sell better lol. PS3 is in more demand judging by it's sales im suprised American's haven't realised this yet,but you know they are always late.

When you give it your best shot and you miss, it's not seen as a failure. Instead, it's just another opportunity to step up to the plate and do it even better next time.
