There is nothing said in the video that I can disagree with. Also, anyone judging the video based on who posted it has that right, but flaming without even watching is just a way of embarrassing yourself. It's obvious the person responsible for the video itself is a big Nintendo fan, and he even says that he thinks the Wii U will eventually sell very well.

In my opinion, most of his criticisms are spot-on. Nintendo truly has wasted their one year head-start. When the PS4 and 720 launch, the Wii U's installed base likely won't have enough power behind it to influence third parties to consider the Wii U as the lowest common denominator. Rather than build that installed base early, and thus entice third party publishers, Nintendo has decided to throw out its big titles in a head-to-head match-up with the system launches from Sony and Microsoft. I cannot, for the life of me, see the logic in that. Why make it a competition when you could have released those games during a period when they had ZERO next gen opposition? They could have blown away the PS3 and 360 (probably) but they instead wish to face the PS4 and 720 mano-a-mano? No.

Nintendo, like Sony, has suffered in previous generations as a result of its own arrogance. Just like Sony after the PS2, there was a time when Nintendo thought they could dictate terms to both consumers and publishers. Quite honestly, you would expect both companies to have learned from that, but a part of me feels that Nintendo had absolute faith in the Wii U's controller as a huge draw even WITHOUT a selection of top level games. I think they rolled the dice with that in mind and didn't get the result they wanted. It's my belief that they fully expected the Wii U to be in a position of power with their big software titles yet to release. Rather than play it safe, they wanted to go for the kill, and I think that confidence and/or arrogance is going to hurt them.

Pretty much.

It boggles the mind why Nintendo didn't try and push out a big title like a new Zelda/3D Mario for launch (or at least near launch). It would have sold millions from the get-go and gain a substantial lead on both Sony and MS. Looking back at last years E3, I remember when all the Nintendo fans were excited for the Wii U JUST by watching that short Zelda tech demo. "Nintendo games.. in HD!" People said, while foaming at the mouth at the thought of it. But now.. a few months after its initial launch, the hype has pretty much gone and wained since the games they promised are simply not there. Super Mario Bros U whilst a good game didn't set the world alight. And it doesn't help that we've already had so many 2D Mario games from the Wii and 3DS in such a short period of time. Putting hope in party games like Nintendoland does nothing in the eyes of Wii consumers since they already have a crap tonne of games like that available to buy on their system. No comment on the hardware, it's Nintendo being Nintendo with Iwata at the helm.

They should have went big from the start but instead, they played it too safe and now will have to suffer for it until they can come up with a good strategy to sell the thing.

I cannot say this guy makes too many great points. Zelda as a launch title would probably help a lot, but when has Zelda never been a launch title that is not a port. And no, I do not think Sony and MS were "ben
ding over ready to take itin the ass if the Wii U had a much better launch lineup." No matter what the Wii U is and a still would not be that much different than the 130 or so million HD consoles already sold. I am pretty sure that the exclusives Nintendo makes will do the console to N64 level to be optimistic.Looking back,  I still remember when Rol drove the trend that 2D Mario sells Nintendo consoles, and had tons of forum goers believing his philosophy. Well, they have S & M Bros U and it is not helping much.

There is a lot of blind faith posters that have too much faith that Nintendo will start selling gangbusters with a few more exclusives in the next year and I doubt it. The console still remains banal in that it offers ports and few of them with nothing looking to change this.

As a loyaIist to Nintendo, I would have to agree that they did screwed up with the Wii U launch but I also have to disagree with what he said.

I think what many critics (like him who try not to or don't bash the Wii U) fail to mention in their reasons is that....this industry is asking too much from a company that's strictly a gaming company.

1.Sure they could/would/should've released a much beefier console, BUT what we have clearly seen is that they can't release a console of that sorts without suffering heavy losses. MS and Sony have much deeper pockets to be able to handle those kind of losses. Have they had released a much more powerful version of the Wii to combat the other two, then would've possibly filed for bankruptcy if it wasn't successful.

Companies like Nintendo are a dying breed/species that might go instinct like Atari, and Sega if things don't get any better.

2, Since this is Nintendo's first time in working with HD technology, it's only natural that they're taking a little bit longer to release their software. I'd rather have them telling me to wait than have them release a rushed, buggy/glitchy game. So a zelda game wouldn't have been possible at launch without being plagued with bugs or other issues.

3. The main reason in my most honest opinion, as to why Nintendo seems to be out of touch (as this guy said) is because of this ever changing industry, and the past management by Iwata's predecessor. The industry for the most part, is just asking too much from a video game company (which was at it's prime during the SNES days) that makes software (only) for their own hardware. We want better, stronger, (and pricier) hardware; that's what the industry mindset is at.

The other half of this falls to Hiroshi Yamauchi. He was an aging CEO who was bickering with third party developers about their troubles with the N64 and his management. He wasn't scared of alienting thrid party companies. Because of this the N64 and later Gamecube suffered greatly. This was when Mr. Iwata tried to patch things up with some developers.

Anyway thats my take on NIntendo's current issue(s) and this video. You ask me if they want to survive in this ever changing business, they would have start branching their company to other things like they did in the past (though it be wierd if they brought back thier love hotels :P).

Theres a reason systems dont release with zelda's budget and polish. It takes too long on an uncharted console. You dont see system sellers at the hdtwin launch. Furthermore, zombiu is a killer app. Supported by this poll I conducted http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=153934&page=1 3 out of 4 vgchartz users who played it would recommend it to a friend. I beat zombiu and I never played anything like it in my life. .

The other thing, the video suggests nintendo should build with specs that sell at a gigantic loss like microsoft and sony.

So a game that sells less than 500k is a killer app, while games that will sell much more on the HD consoles won't be killer apps/system sellers. Do you realize what you're saying?

OT: This is the same guy that did this video, lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWxdcb12FyQ

I thought it was obvious I was talking about *launch system sellers.  Yes I realize what you think I'm saying.  But if a respectable member like you couldn't see it then I guess I did a pretty poor job.  So let me try again.  the hdtwins didn't have a killer app at launch ...
