Mine most of the time goes at less than 9mb/ in download...

Mine is either on par with you or slower and 4.40 update took me 10minutes. I remember because it was right before a Hawks game and I was going to watch it on NHL Center Ice on the Ps3 and turned the ps3 right before the game started and caught the begining of the game. If your times were accurate then I would have missed close to the entire game.

I just checked at my mom's house and the 194mb update would take 40minutes on my moms 0.5mb/s DSL. Obviously you are over exaggerating (greatly)

I've never had an update go that quickly.  Im really not joking.  The thing about my internet is multiple people is on it at all times so even though I have 2.78mbps split that between 2-4 people at any given time and that might help to explain my situation. 

And I havent updated my PS3 since the big PS store update.  Once again i wasnt home during that update.  I try avoiding updates if i can.

I've had similar experience, but I think ragequitting over that is just ludicrous. I at least gave it a chance by completing a playthrough of Heavy Rain and UC2, bit of KZ2 & LBP before considering returning it, but that was due to it not being used in the slightest rather than some disappointment over the download speeds, which I do agree with, the patching seems to be incredibly difficult on PS3, on 360 the patches range from x-50mb so they download relatively fast, but on PS3 I've had so many patches that were 150mb+ and in several packages too.

Oh and BF3 also had those multiplayer HD patches etc, so gl downloading additional like 6GB just for all those crappy updated.

But seriously, getting another HD console while you own the other is a bit of a waste, but then again you did get your parents to get it rather than got it yourself, which is bit of a spoilt alternative tbh.

Wow, I can't believe the EXACT same thing happened to someone else.

I actually had this same problem when I bought my PS3 last year around the same time as you. I even made a thread here asking everyone why the heck the download just literally restarted once it finished.

I hooked that sucker in and started downloading the killzone MP from the PS store and I waited in anticipation to play KZ MP, but once it got to 100%, it started downloading again. I was like WTF? So yeah I just left it and it took a LONG time to download the 4GB or whatever size the game was. I was incredibly annoyed at why it took so long, especially given my internet connection is 30Mbps down and anything I download on my 360 is uber fast.

Funny enough, as I started downloading more, the problem just didn't occur again. Now whenever I download something on the PS3, it does it almost as fast, if not just as fast as my 360, which does things incredibly fast. And I really enjoy my PS3 with all the games it has to offer. I almost play it as much as my 360 now even though most of my friends and the majority of my games are on that console.

I think you made a very hasty decision. You shouldn't just return a product from the first quick you see. You need to try several different things before you make such a decision. Anyway hope you don't regret.
