Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So now the Wii U can run UE 4 games...

Epic Games president Mark Rein now says that developers could create a game using Unreal Engine 4 and bring the product to Wii U. Rein also stated that developers could also bring Unreal Engine 4 games to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The downside to doing this is they wouldn’t look as spectacular as they would on the next Xbox or the PlayStation 4.

“You heard the stupid gaffe yesterday about the Wii U,” he said. “If someone wants to take Unreal Engine 4 and ship a game on Wii U, they can! If they wanna ship an Unreal Engine 4 game on Xbox 360, they could make it happen.” While that game might not look as pretty as it would on a “true” next-gen console, the new engine is scalable to a variety of platforms, including mobile.

Well, let them go on, I don't really care. The 3rd parties are (probably) lost for nintendo, for at least this gen. They should expand their own offerings.

URE4 & FB3 is for Next Generation Consoles/PC, Don't think Wii U falls in any of these calagorys... When he was ask would it be on the Wii u he clearly said "No. It's for next gen." It's said and done.

TechXIII: Listen To Our Story.

I guess if any developer will lost money and time to port the Unreal Engine 4 for the Wii U, PS3 or 360?

Useless.

And now he says it can, just not as pretty as the real thing (which everyone with common sense already knew that).

No. He said Epic will not make the UE4 run in Wii U but if any other developer wants to do that is another history but the graphics will be like the UE3.

Glad to hear that Unreal Engine 4 will be as scalable as UE3. I'm sure if 3rd parties ask for Wii U support Epic will help. Right now it's not worth their effort, but they do want the UE to rule the world.

This was obvious for people with at least a bit of technology knowledge, but not so much for people that only know what gaming sites and blogs tell them. And the latter were the ones making a big deal out of it.

It should be pretty clear that the Wii U can do anything the PS4 or Next Xbox are able to do, albeit at a lower resolution/framerate/scale/quality. It is not a Wii vs PS360 difference, where the technology inside them was totally different, combined with a big difference in power.

Anyway there is nothing in this OP not read in the previous thread.... it is the same content.

PS, But the previous thread was locked.

Quote? As far as I know, he never said that. He said that the Wii U runs UE 3, and that UE 4 on the Wii U was not their focus. He said that devs will use UE 3, he never mentioned anything about other devs porting UE 4.

Unless Kotaku (the original source) didn't mentioned this specific part, which is easy to believe.
