Forums - General Discussion - How long could a Zombie Apocalypse seriously last?

Yeah this is one huge immersion breaker Ive always thought about with Zombie media.

It would be horrible while it lasted but it would last 2 months maximum unless they were some crazy strand of undead that dont decompose

Like in The Walking Dead where it's been like a year in the show and most of the walkers can still walk perfectly fine but with a little limp.  Or how about how they still have most of their teeth even though their body is rotting.  I always think about this stuff when I'm watching the show, but whatever.  There wouldn't be a show if there were no walkers.

Read The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, all of your answers are in there.

I was actually reading Entertainment Weekly and saw some stills of World War Z. Looks great! I thought it was a PC game coming out this year. Then I see Brad Pitt and huge walls with thousands of zombies crawling up it like ants. Cool stuff!

I haven't read the book and I think the movie looks cool, but I hear that the zombies in the movie aren't like the zombies in the book.

Personly I like a "fresh" take on the genre. If all zombie movies were like The Walking Dead there wouldn't be any reason to watch anything other than The Walking Dead.

Yeah from what I've seen the only thing in common between the book and movie is the title, the plot doesn't even look the same.

What I really want to know is how a zombie apocalypse really starts? Because if it is just some random mutation, then I don't see how it could really spread globally

If it is literally people coming out of their graves, then it could be contained by a rapid military response, since their locations could easily and quickly be identified

Until Frank West shows up.

It would all depend on what causes the outbreak. You're talking about something that animates dead corpses and caused them to attack anything alive. Officially, at that point, all of the rules about what makes sense (particularly when it comes to corpses) gets thrown out of the window. Lots of you talking about how they'd just decompose? It'd be nice if that was that simple, especially for the whole "apocalypse" scenario. But if (when ...) it's clear that they are not decomposing like normal corpses, then what?

Runners (28 days, Dawn ot D remake) = until they starve.
Shamblers (TWD, Night ot living dead) = few months maybe. Maybe a couple years until completely eradicated.

There not zombies, they are not the living dead, they are humans that cannot be reasoned with as they are consumed with rage and just want to kill, ....they don't eat people

Yeah I know, it's just the best example for those I could think of. It's a very popular movie.

If from one day to the other 90% of the human population would become Zombies I guess within 1 week all Zombies would be dead.

I can kill 9 Zombies in a couple of hours so can everyone else. If people need 6 days to decide to kill the Zombies they will die the next day.

For it to be a challenge the ratio must be 10000 Zombies vs one Human. This will require a daily fight like we see in Walking Dead.

We gotz no guns in australia. So are we fucked?

Best zombie killing weapon i have is a cricket bat, and if you have played zombiu they are'nt very effective. I can use knives but i rather keep my distance.

got any advice for me, master?

I am not quite sure where you see a problem. They are slow stupid and all you have to do is thrust an object in their brains (the classic zombie)

A pipe would do the trick. Stick one in a watermelon thats easily doable. Also Axes, long knifes swords easily obtainable. You don't have to fight them in a tiny room where 50 Zombies hide. Lure them on the street and split their heads before they can bite you. Zombies have just the strength of the original human they just became stupid slow and don't stop before their brain is damaged.

Well in The Walking Dead everyone is already infected and once you die you turn into a zombie.
So the question would be: How long would it take to find a cure ?
150.000 people already die every day (10% that survive would still make 15.000 every day. Obviously the numbers would be lower because the old and sick probably were the first to day during the apocalypse...but still).
