Forums - Gaming Discussion - Epic confirms: Unreal Engine 4 is NOT coming to Wii U

So if the goal for UE4 is next-gen consoles, then that means it won't be coming to PC or mobiles/tablets. Contradicting their earlier 'very scalable' claim. Hm.

Nintendo Network ID: Cheebee   3DS Code: 2320 - 6113 - 9046

Epic hates Nintendo, they just jealous that they can't make good games like Nintendo does

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

UE4 not coming to WiiU is no surprise.  We already knew the console specs are close to PS360.

But the whole article is a terrible exercise of journalism from Kotaku IMO.  They could have avoided the ""Hahaha no"

But aren't they just reporting what he said? Why is that terrible?

Was the "Hahaha no" part necessary to say WiiU can't run UE4 ?

That's what I'd expect from a serious gaming website. But I know Kotaku isn't that.

Kotaku is a blog, not a dedicated gaming website.

People forget this.  The reason its a blog is so they can so opinionated and not get in trouble for it.

Ouch. Will still be the biggest engine used next-gen, this is a rather big blow.

So, no Destiny(likely), no BF4/ME/DA3, no Frostbite 3 engine, no UE4 engine. Looks rather grim with 3rd party support once again.

I don't expect to ever play anything powered by UE4 on my iPhone then. What's funny is that I probably will.

I wonder if Nintendo could try to fund the porting of the engine or something. I'm sure it would be magically possible then. But... should they? Would developers give a damn even if UE4 runs on the WiiU?

i'd just like to take a second to say... I was right, superchunk was wrong.

UE3 ran on the old-ass iPhone 3GS, still Epic declined to port it to the 3DS which is miles more powerful(that's understandable, though, as 3GS had a programmable shader GPU while 3DS uses a fixed function one, therefore, UE3 wasn't compatible with 3DS at all).

However, in Wii U's case, it's just clear that Epic has some kind of problem with Nintendo, because hardware certainly isn't a problem, as Wii U uses multiple CPUs and has a programmable shader GPGPU, which is similar to PS4/720/Current high-end PCs that UE4 will run.

I figured I'd ask straight-out, so during the Q&A with Rein, I did. "Will UE4 run on the Wii U?"

"Hahaha no." Rein said, with expert comedic timing. The room erupted with laughter. As the laughs died down,

LOL. The fuck is wrong with this room.

Hopefully Nintendo can make a turn around with the Wii U like they did with 3ds because otherwise I'm seeing gamecube level sales vs the 40-50 million I was expecting. They don't have the casual appeal of the Wii and doesn't look to have any where near the core appeal of ps4/720/ps360. So what do we have? Mario Zelda appeal? Didn't work as great as it could have for the Cube. Mario Kart & New Super Mario bros aren't the monster sellers they were on Wii/DS. Nintendo needs somethingNew and crazy good out very soon. Start by kicking in EA & Epics' doors and get these engines running on the Wii U.
