Retailers said the price drops weren't really helping, so this is a software propelled boost. And if Monster Hunter can cause that kind of boost, imagine what an actual big name Nintendo franchise can do.

They didn't say they weren't helping, they said the price cuts didn't do as much as they hoped, so I don't think we can say the hw boost was solely sw driven. Sw definitely would have helped though.

Percentage mean nothing if the number is low to begin with.

It looks like HMV slashed £140 off of the price of the console so it would be insane for it not to improve that much given the massive price-cut!!

It "slashed" about £50 off actually.

Hardware prices in the UK aren't as fixed as the US, you will never pay RRP in the UK unless you're a sucker and just buy at the first shop that has one, which would be any electrical store.

I got my Wii-U Premium for £200 about a month ago and not from HMV.

Zaavi was doing the Premium for £225 for a few weeks.

It's ALWAYS available at £250 (Premium), 8GB is available for £189 in a similar fashion, that is the real accepted price if you can't wait for a deal to get it for less.

The HMV sale is a one off because HMV are in the shit and will try anything to spark some interest in it's stores. Admittedly it did come with Zombie-U as well for £200 which is a massive price cut, but Zombie-U can be purchased for £23 so it's not quite the £140 you mention.

It was still a very large saving, the HMV deal got over 1000 degrees on HotUKDeals IIRC. Nintendo should take notes on this price point though, when its priced similarly to the PS3 and 360, the WiiU will sell decent numbers.

Sales increase probably due to monster hunter and lego city plus a cut in price, eat that badgenome ;) http://mynintendonews.com/2013/03/28/wii-u-uk-sales-rose-almost-125-percent-last-week/

Careful, I'd hate to see you get banned again!

A 125% increase when you're selling ~1,500 units doesn't strike me as terribly positive news. Even less so when it happens on the back of large price cuts and substantial new software. But if you're happy with it, who am I to say you're wrong?

Excuses, excuses from the fanboys, keep going I'm in stitches laughing at your pathetic fanboy ways, you guys must jack off over the negative Nintendo news that comes through on a daily basis

A 125% increase over dreadful sales is still poor sales. If WiiU couldn't get ahead of PS360 with MH and a price cut of this magnitude I think there's little hope...

Bet your going like a duracell rabbit over the negative news, an increase is an increase, more chance of Sony and microsoft leaving the gaming industry than Nintendo, you know, the company with a history!

Where is this the case?

I've kept an eye on Wii U sales and only since march have I seen good deals een propping and they are rarely from the popular chains. Where did you get your Wii U from? Also I think there is a strong perference to buy hardware in store rather then online retails like Amazon or Zavii (which now has it back to to RRP). For that reason the HMV price cut is very significant, at physical retail you'd struggle to find a premium bundle far off the £300+ RRP. I would have snatched one up if there weren't so many current gen games coming out in the same period.

I have my fingers crossed when the Wii U gets it offical price cut later in the year it is of the same value as HMV's sales.

I agree (also an avid HUKD visitor :) that site has cost me thousands lol!)

I'm sure a proprotion can be attributed to HMV but I don't think it's quite as a contributing factor as some may think. There aren't that many HMV stores in the UK that aren't in very highly populated areas and generally speaking, which is reason it's gone down, very few shop there even in inner city which is where all the stores would be with a lot of stock. In Wales where I live there's Swansea and Cardiff and that's it, the Swnsea one is miniscule (heck it might have even shut down haven't been there for years). I know that generally HMV operates quite a few smaller stores where I can't imagine they'd have had that much stock.

There's also the view that HMV has actually shut down completely amongst quite a segment of the population.

Of course that's quite an anecdotal opinion but I'm sure you're aware as much as me since you know about HUKD and the like, it's not a popular shopping destination, and even HUKD although massively popular is certainly not a website that everyone knows about. Also have to ask the question of stock, did they really shift thousands at that price, hard to say.

Could be what made up the lions share of the increase, could not be...hard to say, just flipping the coin a bit to give another viewpoint :)
