Forums - Gaming Discussion - GameStop manager: ''It’s very possible GameStop will die when PS4, Xbox 720 come out"

Good.

EDIT: To clarify: Amazon, Saturn, MediaMarkt and ebay fullfill all my retail game needs. Amazon and ebay give me better prices for my used games while Amazon, Saturn and MediaMarkt all are cheaper than GameStop. I'd be sad for the employees, but GameStop as a company isn't worth a dime to me.

Saturn and Media Markt have cheap games? Where?

Limited Storage space (can be increased, but a lot of people won't do that)

Risk of hackers or glitches stealing/destroying your games

Not everyone has online

Used game business, and physical copies can be sold and traded with friends. (Until digital games can easily do the same, physical copies have a big advantage.)

^Why digital sales will never completely over take physical, or at least not anytime soon. Gamestop doesn't have anything to worry about unless they lose their used game business, but I doubt they will, and even if they did, I still don't think it would send them into the grave, since we can still sell used games to our friends, on amazon and on ebay/craigslist.

Except the reason Gamestop would die would also mean the end of used games at all those retailers.

Um I would have to say no. And who cares what one random GS manager has to say.

We wont. In fact we now have the largest percentage of market share ever

But keep hoping for the death of the industry and consumer rights "core" gamers. You sure are making the industry proud.

This is funny. They just posted a massive loss and are looking to do so in the future. Your fine now because you have used games to sell. After there is none, your not going to be so fine anymore. Are you working in the corporate offices at the top, NO Your not!. So you wouldn't know, wait a min. are  you  that guy that tries to constantly upsell me every time I'm in the store. So much so that you pushed me over to bestbuy because it drives me nutz. lol Sound about right?

Ok maybe your the cool guy their but I have not meet him or you yet. I'm sorry but gamestop is  going bye, bye and we can actually have a healthy market with more than  just shooter, after shooter.  Everytime I'm in gamestop I get the same upsell. "You got our card?"yes from years ago. "Why don't you upgrade again?" No thanks. "you sure? we got, insert random deal, going on". No I don't buy used games. "Well we got a point system that will take you a million years to get something out of, are you sure?" God dammit I'm going to best buy.

Here you go, this about how it goes.

From my experience in retail years ago half the employees loathe these concepts as much as the customers.  Its some edict from corporate to move the needle 2% so they make the whole experience suffer for it.  The worst part is if you're good at it, you just feel bad convincing people to buy into this nonsense just so don't live under the sword of damocles by the store manager.

I wish they would die lol, I hate Gamestop and with their death more 3rd party game stories will open.

Saturn and Media Markt have cheap games? Where?

In Germany. They can compete with Amazon most of the time (especially when the games are still new). Older games...well, that's what Amazon and ebay are there for.

I habe Seen plenty examples where Saturn was 5€ above Kaufhof. Thats why i think they are not competitive in retail princes for games.

o.O I usually am very pleases with the prices of new games there. Maybe it depends on the store's price policy? I'm pretty sure every store manager has a certain level of price control at Saturn and MediaMarkt. And Galeria Kaufhof's price usually were a bit higher than Saturn's. Where in Germany do you come from?
