GameStop manager: ''It’s very possible GameStop will DIE when PS4, Xbox 720 come out!!!!!!"

Article said:

When asked if GameStop will die, a GameStop manager said in a Reddit AMA: “I don’t think GameStop will die with this console generation, but I think it’s very possible it will with the one afterward. That, or the company will be less of a GameStop and more of an Electronics Boutique again.“

Things that make me go, "Hmm..."

I'm not sure what's going on with these terribly misleading headlines lately. Just like that 31 million "active" PS Home users one, haha!

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

I would know if were going to die

We wont. In fact we now have the largest percentage of market share ever

But keep hoping for the death of the industry and consumer rights "core" gamers. You sure are making the industry proud.

This is funny. They just posted a massive loss and are looking to do so in the future. Your fine now because you have used games to sell. After there is none, your not going to be so fine anymore. Are you working in the corporate offices at the top, NO Your not!. So you wouldn't know, wait a min. are  you  that guy that tries to constantly upsell me every time I'm in the store. So much so that you pushed me over to bestbuy because it drives me nutz. lol Sound about right?

Ok maybe your the cool guy their but I have not meet him or you yet. I'm sorry but gamestop is  going bye, bye and we can actually have a healthy market with more than  just shooter, after shooter.  Everytime I'm in gamestop I get the same upsell. "You got our card?"yes from years ago. "Why don't you upgrade again?" No thanks. "you sure? we got, insert random deal, going on". No I don't buy used games. "Well we got a point system that will take you a million years to get something out of, are you sure?" God dammit I'm going to best buy.

Here you go, this about how it goes.

As long as ebay exists I don't care.

If they really are afraid (which they largely aren't, from the articles i've read about their recent financial performance), then they should promote the hell out of the one console that we know is going to support used games.

“I don’t think GameStop will die with this console generation, but I think it’s very possible it will with the one afterward." totally equals ''It’s very possible GameStop will die when PS4, Xbox 720 come out"

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Did you miss this whole section?

For the full fiscal year, revenue dropped by seven percent to $8.89 billion from $9.55 billion. GameStop recorded a loss of $269.7 million, which compares to a profit of $339.9 million the previous year.

The company is not going to come out and say, the f'ing roof is on fire, we are burning to the ground. They have to worry about the shareholders. You don't come out and say your going to fail soon. They also expect a loss for next year. THats sounds pretty bad to me. Oh and if it is true about MS and Sony, Which I'm sure it is. They better invest into something else.  Seems your getting what you want out of it. Seems to be a trend on VGchartz. People decide what they want to believe and than work back to find what supports their ideas, rather than letting the facts dictate your decisions or understanding.

used games will NOT be blocked..

..but digital distribution is going to gain in popularity. a place like gamestop is going to have issues long term because unlike a bestbuy/walmart/target they have no diversity in products. if physical game sales drop in favor of digital that linearly, negatively impacts there revenue.

gamestop will either diversify themselves or will die in the next 10ish years.

You take on the used games market the way Apple had piracy, by catering to the laziness of people.  Make it so easy to go digital that people get to it and be willing to pay whatever for it.  End up totally cutting the used market out completely this way.

All I have to say is that Gamestop had several losses last year, while Steam grows 50% on the same period.

Ah, that's true. "Surprise Profit" was for the quarter...
