Not sure why food and sex are so closely associated. Food is like the last thing that crosses my mind when having sex.

It's simple really, food releases the closest similar amount of dopamine (what makes us feel happy) as sex.
Meaning, people who eat, get almost the same level of happiness as you get from sex. It's no surprise that the two would inevitably become linked.

Similarly, here's a picture of brain mapping

Notice how close to the genitals all the "fetish" zones are.

Both of these previous slides havea  similarity in common which is cross contamination. Food gets CC'd with sex, and genitals CC with other close by areas.
The more you know!

Not sure if I buy the Dopamine connection. its not like just food and sex are being rewarded by it. Also Videogames Sports Drugs Success increase Dopamine levels above your average level. Basically everything thats fun, Dopamine is fun itself. So why isn't sex associated with Mario Bros but with Chocolate.

To the second pic well no ? What do you mean ? Why doesn't food gets cc'd with wrists. Also I don't see the connection food has with sex on here to be honest.

I do realize that food and sex are the most basic urges but for me personally its two seperate things.

So while I understand it rationally that it seemingly overlaps I don't understand it emotionally.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Why one and not the other?

They're all linked. I don't know where you're getting this idea that they're not.

Also, the highest NATURAL high, is sex. The next highest is Food. The next highest is excercise. And nicotine and caffeine is just right above sex. Gambling and video games are in there too somewhere.

sex, food, cigarette, coffee.

Sure you don't understand how sex and food go together. But surely you can understand coffee and cigarettes or sex and smokes or coffee and food. You don't need to understand it on an emotional level. Just understand it on a factual level.

@second pic. Umm, I don't know where you drew the correlation to food and wrist. If it goes, sex>elbow and food>sex, that doesn't mean food>elbow, if that's what you're saying. I'm just talking about cross contamination. Look, when molecules are released, they're not released like a bow and arrow. Your body isn't like I'm hungry - and- roger that, begin salivating.
The electrical signals are transmitted more like a man releasing chum into the ocean. He's looking to net something specific, but all kinds of other things are showing up too. That's because molecules are released by neurons, NA sodium molecules etc, which are absorbed by neary neurons, and the chemical imbalance causes them to "fire", which causes other releases and electrical stimuli. So when your crotch neurons are firing, and dropping that chum in the water, naturally nearby neurons unrelated to the crotch, will also fire.

This is how the brain works, amidst a sea of chaos. Similarly, the same works for dopamine. We like to feel good, and so compound our dopamine releases. It's just logical that some people when thinking about sex, might think about food, the same way when I think about food, I think about smoking.

For the chubby chaser inside all of us.

Not sure if you can rank highs like that. Its really subjective and the amount of Dopamine released for an activityis not the same for all persons. Are you refering to a certain study made on the topic ? Like what Dopamine increases can be observed for certain activities, which are then ranked, in a large enough sample group ?

Ofcourse pleasurable experiences are all linked but food and sex seem to have a special relation as appearently many people feel that way.

@second Pic wrist/food was a random connection. Because I don't see how this pic helps your case at all.

In short: I do understand how the connection is made in the brain how fetishes happen how Dopamine stimulates areas which contain various things. Its possible to find everything pleasurable and connect it to sex.

Thats not my point. I was just questioning your methods of convincing me, the pics you brought up are not making your case. Should I just take your word for it ?  I am aware that sex and food are big players in a humans mesolimbic system and likely to be associated.

But Its not at all like that for me. So I don't really understand it. Thats what I was saying at first. I wasn't asking for an explanation.

Then came your explanation of what I already know. But it wouldn't be good enough to convince me if I wouldn't already know additional information. Thats why I countered. Not to actually ask you, just to see if you would expand your case and bring in additional information I wasn't aware of to learn something new.

THe leveles released, I would assume are from a study. I just don't know which study.

@ the second pic, it wasn't meant to evidence my first argument, it was merely another cool factoid about sex and how it gets cross contaminated with something non-sexual.

Sex and food the two highest natural dopamine releasers, I would show you the study, but I took this is school a very long time ago. I'm 90% certain though that they dwarf the others non-drug induced dopamine releases.

But yeah, I understand where you are coming from. I find food and sex rather repulsive....cigarettes on the other hand... When I think of food I think of smokes, and the same with sex and cigarettes. So I understand something similar. If you look at it from an existential view, like the blanket, it makes more sense. sex, food, drugs - that's just a,b, and c. When you understand that a b and c are interchangeable, it's easier to fathom.

If you're looking for more information, sorry to say, it doesn't exist. The data shows what it shows, and if that's not good enough to help understand, the only other way is to illustrate it differently. There is no real other reason that food should link to sex, on a chemical level. Even behaviorally, the two things are quite separate things. A lot of people like to say "in the caveman days", but really, all they're doing is explaining the behavioral consequences of chemical makeup.

Ok now I can follow your thoughts better. It pretty much is my theoretical point of view on the topic. I just wanted to see if you would reference some other angles or data. I guess food and sex are the most important dopamine triggers. Still I would really like to see if thats always the case I am not so sure about that tbh. To test out the theory it would be nice to perform a PET Scan on a bunch of people doing various stuff to see if food really triggers the highest dopamine release after sex in every person or just in average.

I will never get the food sex connection myself. I also think its repulsive in a way. And I prefer a clear seperation of those things.

Smoking and food I can somewhat relate to. Drugs make me think of sex. Sex however makes me just think of sex.  And I personally can't imagine to substitute it with anything.  Especially with food. Its just not doing it for me.

Sex and drugs are a natural fit however.
