The lack of these big-name 3rd party titles is what killed the Wii.(Of course Nintendo had some part in this as well)

Even though Wii U is getting some big games such as AC and Watch Dogs, its still missing some major franchises. The ones it did get didn't sell very well at launch so I think the future of 3rd party support for Wii U won't be much different than that of the Wii.

Wii was the best selling console till 2010 without any of these big-name 3rd party titles. What killed it was the fact that after 2010, Nintendo stopped supporting it.

The lack of the biggest, most popular titles out there caught up with the Wii. People weren't going to continue purchasing a console that lacks a ton of good games. People keep saying Nintendo has lost the casual audience but looking at sales of Wii games last year, what sold the most last year? Just Dance 4. I say Nintendo lost and has been losing that "core" gamer for years.

Man, substitute kids for casual and this is the same argument I've been hearing since 1995.

edit, ^ thanks Rol. lol. I couldn't say, I wasn't around in 1988.

I largely disagree with the parts I excluded, but I think there's some truth to this part. Or at least, I believe this is how Nintendo perceived the situation, and that it radically overvalued that market.

Without the casuals backing Nintendo this time and without 3rd party support, the Wii U might become another Gamecube.

Now, the Wii U has launched in the post-financial recession world, families are not clear as to whether the Wii U helps them play Wii Sports in any different way, and after years of terrible support from third parties and the whole core vs casual gamer argument, the Wii U has lost most of it's "cool" credibility.

So the way to win in the post-recession world is to launch the most expensive system with the best games and pin your hopes on a bunch of $60 exclusives, many with $15+ DLC?

I don't see how that helps all the broke people buy a next gen console?

It wasn't until 2011, concidentally the year that Nintendo stopped supporting the Wii, that it slowed down sales-wise. Before 2011, Wii also didn't had any of the biggest, most popular titles out there(except CoD) and it was way ahead of the PS3/360 sales wise.

I think the sales of Nintendogs + Cats on the 3DS in comparison to the DS version shows the writing is on the walls. I don't expect any expanded audience software to do as well on Wii U as it did on Wii.  2D Mario launched Wii to the stratosphere,  yet NSMBU has not done the same for Wii U.  If we can't rely on those games to replicate their prior success(which none appear to be doing)Wii U is nothing but a Gamecube as far as software content goes. Nintendo lacks the development teams to do much beyond what they have always done. N64 and Gamecube show us what those franchises can do without that the expanded audience pushing them higher.

I think the latter software starved years of the Wii, the intimidating controller, and higher cost of the system have alienated the expanded audience. Nintendo's bid to try to please all gamers backfired. They would need more developers and beefier specs to please the core audience and industry at large. The costs associated with that will scare away the expanded audience.

wii u is doom3d. It's been out for 5 months so it is impossible for the console to make a comeback. Nintendo 1st part games will not save it cuz they don't have blood and shit. LOL i serious can't wait for the next gen consoles to arrive so i can get my revenge

Are you saying that Mario won't even barely move the sales numbers?

You are saying that people won't buy the Wii U because the other platforms have other games. That is wrong. If "no one" are going to buy a Wii U for Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Metroid, Star fox, F-zero, Xenoblade, Endless Ocean, Fire Emblem or freaking smash bros, then who are going to buy these systems for a rather small title (compared to nintendo's bigger ones) like Killzone?
