Currently Sony have: Kinect (covered), Wii (covered), Wiiu (covered), 720 (covered), Cloud gaming (covered). I think the OP makes a very good point and it's certainly worth considering. If MS don't do something soon then they're dead outside of America and the UK (and even in these territories they are not going to get the advantages they had last gen: Earlier, cheaper, better online, possitive press as apposed to PS3 negative press.

Really? Cool. Too bad a majority of people don't know a thing about it because it's still months from release and they revealed it at a special meeting most people had no idea was happening. MS can reveal the next Xbox at E3 or on MTV again or hell anywhere with the spotlight and still be perfectly fine. Or they can do it like Sony and have their own little conference and still be fine. Holidays 2013 is still a long ways off.

Regarding what Sony has "covered", lol ok. A bit too early for any of that.

Maybe to bury the WiiU they are doing this.  But, it would make a lot of sense for developers to wait for the next Microsoft console to be announced before releasing any news regarding what is up with next gen consoles.

Regardless of whether Kinect2 will be "beter", there are only so many features you can add to an existing service until it becomes irritating, or people actually start to realise they don't really need most of the service...

What Sony certainly hasn't covered is Kinect. The whole point of the original Kinect was to buy each and every (willing and unwilling) software company doing R&D in that area. They certainly spent a 9digit figure to get all the knowledge they could find (MS never cared at all about PrimeSense technology. As soon as Kinect2 is out, MS will have forgotten Kinect ever existed). MS has at least a two year lead on Sony here and that _will_ show when NextBox "goes online".

PS4 won't release a year later and have a horrible architecture were developers start to puke.
The PS4 is the number 1 choice already for some 3rd Party as Ubisoft said with AssaCreed 4 > PS4 Version will be the best out of all version and that includes NextBox.

The PS3 is outselling the 360 since 2008 all the time and they don't need the USA for that.
Worldwide is the key to win and Sony is doing more than great in EU and Japan.And the USA won't show that big gaps either with the PS4.

Wrong - EA is buddies with Sony cause Activision is in love with Microsoft.
While Activision is ready to betray them as it looks like with Destiny cause Bungie likes Sony.
DICE loves Sony as we can see with Battlefield and Fifa is doing much better in Europe = Sony.
There won't happen something like what some people in this thread dream of.

Of couuuuurse...This time for real the Uncharted,Gears,Halo,Virtual Reality ULTRA FLUID Gameplay like Peter molyneux and his friends already promised for the Kinect 1.Everything will be good
Sony has that perfectly covered for multimedia and you can't do more for that > As a gimmick while they still focus  mainly on real games.

And yes i can think(not that i believe that in combination with money) of something like "Please don't talk about NextGen cause people will only see the Playstation 4 Title on it cause no other NextGen is announced".
Cause what will people remember?NextGen or Playstation 4 at the end of the trailer?Of course the Playstation 4 and people will google maybe even for that.
What is "And for other NextGen Hardware"?A new console?Steambox?Nvidia Tablet?What?Ipad5?
It CAN hurt Microsoft if developers combine important games like Battlefield 4 and Metal Gear officially right now in big presentations with the PS4.
Battlefield 4 will be the console pushing FPS Multiplat for the NextGen Consoles with its graphical power and Metal Gear always has its biggest part of the fanbase on the Sony Side.You can't miss out on that.

This sounds a bit conspiratorial.
While possible, I don't think MS would see this as a good expenditure.
Delaying huge games only helps ps4 look better later on. It's still way early in the year to be talking launch games.

If they really try to establish stupid things like always online whilst gaming,banning used games,big brother kinect (i don't think they will as there were several similar rumours about ps4,but they were not true)they need things to convince/force people to buy their system and to pay for always online.Than you need exclusives:the most expensive - the most wanted.Most people are not willing to lose 300-500 bucks each and every year by not being able to sell games.Buying 15 games a year and selling them again(to buy new games)=losing 300-500dollar year after year after year

- Madden and Fifa can't be exclusive due to contracts with the NFL / Fifa.
- Big brother Kinect without you agreeing to be watched / recorded would be illegal. The console would be banned immediately.
- Who the hell sells games for 500 USD a year?! (if I got this one right)

You fully well know that the Kinect/Windows Phone marketing expenses (1billion) were CORPORATE MARKETING EXPENSES, and not edd marketing expenses.

I always wondered if xbox gamers care about gaming? Between the 3 big console makers SONY has been the only one to take risks with new ip's.

MS has been recycling their ip's for the past 3-4 years. If MS quits with xbox then all their ip's will just become multi plat or pc exclusive.

If Sony quits with playstation who is going to take the risks that sony has with games like little big planet, heavy rain, journey, Puppeteer, Rain, and many others. Sony also gives their developers creative freedom and time to do what the developers want. Sony also supports a variety of game genres including the dying platforming genre (thanks xbox) thus supporting every gamer out there.

Even developers are praising Sony for their support to developers. OTH developers dislike microsoft as many horror stories have been written against microsoft. Even Bungie had to buy out their freedom from M$.

Also look at what microsoft has done with the xbox. They have zero aaa first party games this year for the 360, and they seem to want to make the next one less about new gaming experiences and more about its media functionality. If the tactics stated in the op are true then as a gamer that is disgusting to see MS play so low. 


I might get banned for this but I must speak my mind as I just don't get how xbox gamers can be MS fanboys.

Microsofts CORPORATE MARKETING EXPENSES for the entire year and all products and services combined was 1.9 billion USD for the FY 2011, when Kinect and Windows Phone were released.

You think those two, relatively small products, accounted for 53% of the entire marketing budget of the whole company in 3 months?
