Great opening for Luigi's Mansion! And the Vita is pretty healthy, too. It just shows consoles need games and an appropriate price point and they'll sell. What's the Vita lineup for april look like? Anyone know?

did we really need to be shown that?

To everybody disappointed by Luigi's Mansion "only" selling 300,000 week one in Japan: Luigi's Mansion 2 has already sold more than fairly notable games like Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Furthermore, this is just week one for a game that will likely have Mario style legs. Last year's Mario Tennis Open opened at 100,000 copies in Japan and is already triple that number. NSMB2 opened at 423,000 sales and is almost at 2 million under a year later. At this rate, Luigi's Mansion has a good shot at selling a million in Japan alone.

Love and tolerate.

Luigi and 3DS are very, very meh. I guess I got my hopes up too high? I honestly expected something like 400k with 100k HW.
Vita's keeping up extremely well. Let's see how it does entering a comparatively barren period of software.

Yeah I think many of us were expecting more from the 3DS this week. SW isn't too bad, but HW? Yeah, a tad lackluster.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I think sometimes people often forget that the rise in digital sales, for handheld games especially, makes direct comparisons with numbers for past games very misleading. I know that digital sales on the Vita are quite high and I would imagine the same is true for the 3DS. Games like Soul Sacrifice and Luigi's Mansion have probably sold many more copies than we can see here. I would also love to know what kind of numbers digital content on the PS3 and Wii U is seeing in Japan, or if that's more of a western trend with home consoles.

The Vita had a nice week for both hardware and software. Holy Sorcery Story is soon, I think. The lack of noticeable bumps for the 3DS and PS3 is a bit of a surprise, though. Of course, the PS3 is at a high saturation level, and I would imagine that Luigi fans are a subset of Mario fans, who mostly already have a 3DS.

Nintendo 3DS which is selling in Japan at record levels sees its sales increasing, it is perceived as poor.
Wii U which is also seeing its sales increasing with nothing new since last week, it is perceived very mediocre.
But an rebound of Playstation Vita sales of about 12% according to Media Create and 2 or 3% according to Famitsu following a price cut, several games realeases,it is perceived as INCREDIBLE !!!

I think I will never be able to understand this kind of logic...

New One Piece game kept Vita afloat. Anything new released next week? Otherwise, I'm betting a 5-10k drop.

3DS slightly boosted by Luigi's Mansion, which in turn sold amazing. :3 Anyone disappointed in this is foolish. Never trust VGchartz for your sales expectations, especially not based off VGchartz pre-orders. I remember when they said Skyward Sword had over 1 million pre-orders. What a laugh.

Good on Luigi. Slightly disappointed by 3DS HW; yet again, those who like the Mario Bros would already own a 3DS. I'm surprised by the 20k of downloadable cards, that's pretty good.

Vita up again, nice. From 60k in its first price cut week to 41k in its 4th, I don't know if there is a precedent for such a good hold in Japan after a cut. Muramasa next week and then it will be interesting where it will settle, because it's probably gonna drop quite a lot now that there's gonna be a dry spell.

WiiU up, did some game release? Maybe because there was a national holiday on the 20th everything is a bit up? Or maybe it has baselined and will fluctuate around that figure, but it seemed like quite a difference. Ps3 up too, but that had OP.

OP way below its predecessor's numbers as expected, the 1st one didn't have a good reception after all.

Just bought Luigi's Mansion 2 today, thats a pretty good opening week for the game!

The original on GC only sold 457k - http://www.vgchartz.com/game/1207/luigis-mansion/Japan/ - On an opening of 160k... So this is brilliant.
