Evidence,

1. Reduced sales compared to predecessor.

2. Reduced market share compared to predecessor.

3. Having to copy the lead platform (Wii) with a rip off (Move), another rip off (PSABR), another rip off (LBP Karting).

4. Having to copy the 2nd placed platform (X360) with trophies.

5. Sixaxis. (Need I say more?)

6. Weak ports despite "THE POWER", "THE CELL" blah blah

7. Loss of some exclusives to X360.

8. Most expensive but not clearly the most powerful.

Anyone care to add any more?

Good topic. Sometimes I forget how much of a failure the PS3 was for the first few years, seeing how much it turned things around since 2009.

And yet I've already had thousands of hours of fun with this "failure"

Against,

1. lots of 3rd party support, like PS2 had (marketshare/ sales isn't everything)
2. Cell's power used to make amazing graphics in exclusives eg Killzone 2, Uncharted 2/3, Last of Us
3. Wii is failing sales wise despite being generation leader
4. Trophies and Achievements are very different concepts.
5. Sixaxis had some use in older games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Heavy Rain
6. PS3 is not expensive anymore and it sells accordingly.
7. Move is an evolution of the Wii, rather than a mere rip off
8. LBPK and PSABR, ended up being quite different to the games they were based on. Only gameplay is similiar

Seems like someone has been to beach recently and forgot to get rid of the sand.
