Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's silence on WiiU to be broken soon

I dont think they have been quiet. They did do that big Nintendo direct where they announced several games.

It takes time to develop games.

I wonder what their comments will be to the big miss on the fiscal target and the lack of shipments for the start of Q2? Remaining silent in their current situation is not cute or clever, its probably the silliest thing they can do right now. They should have spoken up weeks ago.

What are they to say? "Oops, our mistake, we're sorry"? That song and dance routine was refreshing the first few times, but it's worn out its welcome by now, I think.

I don't know what they should say. I'm very glad I'm not responsible for press relations at Nintendo HQ right now. I think we can all agree that remaining silent much longer is a very bad idea though, Nintendo Direct is hardly the way to go to reach the audiences they want, I don't think Pikmin and Lego City Undercover demographics are spending their time online watching press conferences and live casts with Nintendo and other companies.

I just want a release date for Pikmin 3

Actually, I imagine the Pikmin audience is very much so in the Nintendo Direct demographic, as are a notable portion of Undercover's intended consumer base. The bigger issue, or at least one of the bigger issues, is that that audience is almost statistically insignificant.

I think you guys are setting yourself for some disappointment. Nintendo's resources seemed taxed between 3DS and Wii and the HD development for WiiU will just make it worse.

Nintendo already announced a lot of upcoming games and no doubt some of those announced in the last ND will be out 2014. Typically they only drop two big games for the holidays.

There could be some small titles, or some 3rd party titles announced and hopefully some dates attached to some of the already announced games. But I think the stuff that Nintendo fans would be excited about have already been announced so I don't know what more you're looking for.

Their target is 4 million,

They have officially sold 3.06 million(by the end December), and unoffically sold another 420k(in january and febuary), so you may have spoke a little too soon.

Those are shipped numbers. Stores are reporting excess stock from the initial shipments that came almost half a year ago. They won't be able to ship any more Wii U's in March or Q2 because people won't place the order since the original stock isn't budging. Besides, let's not forget that the original target was 5.5 million with a likely sellthrough of 5 million expected, this has been shaved to 4 million shipped and a likely 3.5 million sellthrough expected and will still be missed by at least 15-20% with a really poor sellthrough. There was no plan, direction or reason behind this product, that is becoming more and more evident.

I haven't really spoken too soon, I've been saying for months that they would miss this target by a great deal (and that was the original 5.5 million, missing the adjusted one is nothing short of a small crisis). January, february and march sales are simply atrocious and their conservative projection is still way too big, I'm not the one who spoke too soon, the ones who claimed certain success after november and december did though.

I too think a ND will take place this week. Probably announced on Wed. to take place on Thursday.
Above all things, release dates for the coming months must be revealed.
Also, show videos for 3rd party games just released like NDS and The Walking Dead and those coming out by showing the "Wii U difference".

Would be cool to see VC having a release date or something close to that.
Hope Nintendo announces some japanese oriented games from 1st and 3rd parties.

I agree with much that has been posted here. I am glad so many think that a price cut is a very bad option right now.

What I think people want to hear is definite release dates on the big games that are coming.

Without a doubt there are many people that want to pick up a U but are either waiting for a price cut, games or both. Confirming that no price cut is coming but the games are on a specific date may just get some people picking up the U sooner rather than later.

I speak from my own experience. I had every intention of picking up a wii u last December or January. When that didn't happen due to a lack of effort on my part I decided to wait until later in the year. I have one now that I got on a good deal but that was never my intention. There was no rush as I wanted none of the games released so far.

We all know how this business works... well apart from Nintendo it seems. Big games sell consoles.

the only reason why I bought the Wii day 1 because my gamecube broke and I wanted to play the 20+ games I had including the three I got for Wii. WiiU on the other hand were getting games that I could've gotten for my xbox, New Super Mario Bros. U was not enough for me.

Shoot, you found me, I changed my comment hoping you wouldn't see it>.> not because I think it's wrong or whatever, it's simply because I don't feel like arguing about it, and I decided that after I posted it, so I immediately changed it, you must have eyes like a hawk:P

But whatever, the 5.5 million sales was estimated back when pikmin 3, raymon legends and lego city were all launch titles, and the 4 million sales were back when raymon legends was coming out in febuary.  If the wiiU gets within 500k of that estimate, I would be shocked.  Either way, sales will pick up once the rest of the announced games come out, and I would easily bet you my profile pic rights:P that the ps4 and 720 will have similar launch window sales as the wiiU:P
