Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's silence on WiiU to be broken soon

I'm assuming, as mad as it sounds, that Nintendo has been really quiet on their newest home console's future because the "launch window" is about to finish (coincidentally with the end of the current fiscal year) and they want and need to post big profits on their next fiscal year. Iwata is taking responsibility of it, he knows that the current state of the Wii U is dire and that releasing key software or making key announcements right now would be useless. They are probably holding everything back, even the 3rd party companies, to make announcements of new software, release dates or new media for announced projects.

They know they have screwed up the launch, and that there was no short term way of reversing this. They will take the impact now and go all in soon. Not even retailers know what's there to come and some third party companies have said there's games coming, but that they couldn't spoil the beans yet.

Add to that that Nintendo is financially aiming pretty high for the next fiscal year, expecting more than 100 billion yen of operating profit alone, that means, leaving aside the obvious profits that will be made due to the yen weakening against the dollar. (see question 4 in the link provided)
I don't believe such figure would be possible only on the back of 3DS alone and with they WiiU still selling at a loss, also considering that they have forecasted a 20 billion yen operating income loss for the current year ending in a week and DS and Wii have sold decently this year. So they are banking big on Wii U games, as can be deduced from the forecasts.

I'm expecting a ND soon. Nintendo's been too quiet and they are about to go all in. No big surprises from Nintendo themselves until E3 or after, but they will detail the upcoming line up and I expect it to be crammed. Probably a few 3rd party games revealed. An aggressive ad campaign should also begin.

It's either this or they lose their last chance to gain relevancy before MS and Sony arrive on the scene and inaugurate their newest and more powerful consoles.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Let it be true!

Nintendo Network ID Sasso13 - ADD ME!!! 3DS code: 3480-3117-6001 name SassoBet made with ninjablade on the 23rd Jan. 2013: If Wii U will not sell 25 mil units WW lt HE WILL HAVE FULL CONTROL OF MY SIGNATURE AND AVATAR for A MONTH! I BET THAT WiiU will sell 25mil units WW by the end of 2015 - in which case I will take control of his avatar and signature for a month!!!
I wouldn't be at all surprised to get a Nintendo Direct this Friday. They like Fridays, and with GDC going on it would be interesting timing.

3DS has some big games coming that will sell loads and make nothing but money, even if WiiU has some big games they've still got to sell the console to people which will dig into profits from those games while it sells at loss. Nintendo still need 2 game sales to profit from a WiiU customer?

There's also the matter of the Wii U firmware update coming next month. I expect they'll want to elaborate on that.

The 2 game figure was not officially confirmed, nor specified for which region that was pertaining to, considering the pricing differences. However, the console is still selling at a loss. Yeah, the amount of games they will have to sell will be huge to offset the HW losses if they expect big HW sales, so that's why I firmly believe that they will make sure the upcoming schedule is as loaded and properly distributed as it  can be. As well as announcing new games at E3 for the Holiday season.

Yes most definitely. That and some new features or applications.

To add, I don't think price cut is the answer either. While PS360's cheaper/established presence has harmed the new system, its still not the true competition for U. So instead of a price cut, Nintendo should refresh the skus.

A "super deluxe bundle", with Nintendoland and NSMBU preinstalled, along with 64gb, should be the new $350. Then an "eshop bundle", white 32 gb with $30 (coincide w/ nintendo's 30th anniversary) eshop money as the new basic offering. NSMB is a system seller, but nintendoland is not, so if they want to sell systems as well as push asymmetric gameplay, Nintendo should bundle both, kind of like the new Mario Bros/Duck hunt. An eshop bundle pushes consumers to purchase digitally, so these bundle examples are a great way to sell systems and its features.

They really need to provide some solid release dates, we know the games are comming but WHEN is a very critical question.
Give dates to the things already annonced, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Game & Wario, and provide months/windows for the things that are a little far ahead Bayonetta 2, Yoshi, X, and Wii U Party.
Then they can wait till E3 to announce/show the other games Mario Kart, 3D Mario, WW remake and some surprise.

Makes sense, I've been hoping this is the case for weeks now, lets just hope it is.
