Forums - Sales Discussion - UK Charts: Gears of War Judgment hits top, Walking Dead in at third

VG247

Gears of War: Judgment is the new UK number one this week, followed by the poorly-reviewed Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. The delay in review code seems to have worked after all.

Gears of War: Judgment has released straight in at number one, following a string of positive reviews. You can check out our review score round-up here.

You can also check out my appraisal of People Can Fly’s shooter here.

Meanwhile, the poorly-received Walking Dead: Survival Instinct comes in at third. There were no reviews of the game ahead of launch because we’ve heard that most outlets didn’t receive code and many had to buy it themselves at launch.

I questioned why we hadn’t played or seen much of it at all when I interviewed developer Terminal Reality. Read what they had to say here.

Finally, newcomer Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has come in at seventh place. It’s a wonder RPG that fans of Dark Souls and those kinds of games will surely love. You can check out my ‘Noob’s Journey’ blog on the game – with gameplay videos – here.

Now then, that chart in full:

1. Gears of War: Judgment
2. Tomb Raider
3. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
4. FIFA 13
5. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
6. God of War: Ascension
7. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
8. SimCity
9. Far Cry 3
10. Black Ops 2

‘Gears of War: Judgment’ ends Tomb Raider’s two week life at the top with Microsoft’s first All Formats No1 of the year pushing Square’s successful reboot into second place.

The fourth instalment in the Gears of War series is a prequel and as such cannot match the launch week sales of its hugely popular predecessor which sold 4 times more in its first week. Sales of ‘Tomb Raider’ drop by 44%, but it still manages to stay ahead of another ‘survival’ themed title, Activision Blizzard’s ‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’, a new entry at No3.

A survivor of another kind is ‘FIFA 13’ (+32%), 26 weeks never outside the Top 6 and up 2 places this week to No4. In their second weeks of release ‘Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2’ (-37%) and ‘God of War: Ascension’ (-61%) both fall one place and four places respectively to No’s 5 and 6. ‘Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate Edition’ debuts at No7 with the 3DS version accounting for 55% of sales and Wii U the rest. The Wii U title accounts for almost 50% of the value generated by all Wii U software this week. ‘SimCity’ (-33%) drops from No5 to No8, ahead of previous All Formats No1s ‘Far Cry 3’ (+18%) at No9 and ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (+27%) at No10.

Price promotions give a boost to ‘Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’ (+114%), up from No19 to No11 and ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ (+71%) up from No21 to No16.

i wouldn't count on that thread lasting, seems like it upsetted everyone, even though it's the same as this

go figure

Its clear that MS didn't push this as Gears 4. They marketed it accordingly and Gears J will sell well for what it is.

3 times as much as God of War: A is very impressive!

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

my word D:

heh, just wished the whole thing went away lol

As I said in the other thread, good to see a strong GOW debut and MH as well. With Nintendo Land in the chart, it suggests a notable Wii U HW boost, and with Lego City and other games on the way, lets hope for a sales increase.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
