Forums - PC Discussion - Windows 8, finally up and running. Thanks VGC.

I didn't have much choice since my new laptop came with Windows 8.

Anyways, I also have issues with these forums. When trying to post or edit a post I can't highlight and drag or do just about anything...

This is totally frustrating.

Isn't it possible to install Windows 7 and get rid of Windows 8?

I feel bad for you, though. Win8 really is not the best OS... ever.

Not all of us have disposable income like that or the time to waste on trolling a PC operating system.

Yet here we are... Slamming the whole operating system and its layout because we can't fgure out how to run Pandora minimized.

All you had to do is ask..."How do I make Windows 8 look more like Windows 7 while utilizing all benefits Windows 8 has to offer?"

I'm sure one of the first 5 posters would have replied "Install Start8" and you would have been on your merry way not wasting any time.

Maybe instead of wasting my time you should have actually read my OP instead of just reading the title. I actually did what you just suggested.

"How do I have Pandora radio running in IE and keep it playing when I minimize the window like I did with Vista, XP, etc...?How do I get it to look like the windows of old because I really dislike this new style, as does my fiance.   Thanks."

Yeah, so please stop being so sensitive about someone not praising Windows8 and on top of that, learn what trolling really is. I say this because I obviously was not trolling since I was in fact doing what you say was "All I had to do".

I also even went ahead and thanked someone when they suggested me to use Pokko, since nobody suggested Start8. I even thanked the person who informed me of the issues with VGChartz on the Metro browser and informed me that the issues was not present when using Chrome or the IE10 desktop version. Trolls don't do that.

Good day.

From what I have gathered so far in my investigating (Since people would rather bitch and whine here instead of help), I would need to change the BIOS in order to do that. I was told that computers that come with Windows8 pre-installed are set up so you can't drop to Windows 7 or anything prior.

Either way, I found very helpful and not so sensitive people outside of VGChartz who were very helpful and generous and I have learned more about Windows 8 and am beginning to tailor it to my style.

I jsut want to make sure I also thank those here who did in fact try to help instead of getting mad at me for asking the community I have spent the last 5+ years with for help... -.-

Pokko works great too. There is at least 5 viable options to get Windows 7 back...

Also if you want to edit posts on VGChartz in IE10 desktop mode, you have to check "compatibility mode" which is found inthe URL bar between refresh and dropdown buttons. Looks like a broken page.

^^ I don't think your trolling or anything of the like but I do think you need to give it a chance. It is very different hence there will be a pretty big learning curve but once you figure out how everything works you will see it really is better in every way to Windows 7. When I first used Windows 8, I thought it was not quite as good as Windows 7; but now that I've been using it and have found out how to do everything I normally do I think it is better in every way. On a touchscreen, it's absolutely magnificent; on an average desktop and laptop it's simply better than Windows 7.

Which was the purpose of this thread. I was merely asking for help so the learning experience would be more pleasant.

Thank you for responding in a more friendly manner.

I currently use Pokko but Start8 looks more like the old style, so I will be switching to that.

I will try out that IE10 mode. Been so used to Chrome and only using up to IE8 at work that I never found the need to figure out what that icon was for.

Anyways, I seem to be up and running well now and working on getting a ton of Skyrim mods to work, although a few times I broke my game and had to do a fresh install to figure out what I did wrong.

I have no idea yet how many mods my laptop can handle.

You might like this. It's only $5. I told myself I would get used to the new Start Menu, but I still rarely ever use any W8 apps after owning the OS for about five months now.

Also, Microsoft did something weird with IE on W8. There is a Start Menu version and a Desktop version. The former is designed with the minimalist, touchscreen approach like the rest of W8 apps, and is probably the one you're using. I also find it to be quite cumbersome and dubiously gimped. The latter works just like IE on Windows 7.

I have to ask though: why use IE to begin with? It's a great browser for downloading a better browser, like Firefox or Chrome.

W8 seems like it would be awesome for a tablet or smartphone, where the browser isn't the be-all, end-all program, so it makes sense to have a ton of different apps for different purposes. On laptops and desktops, there are always better, more complete programs available either to download to the desktop, or to add to a browser, or to use in a browser through java or HTML.

Edit: Realized someone recommended Start8 to you while I was typing my post.

I am actually looking to grab Start8.

As for the IE question. At my job all the PCs have IE8, so I use that most of the time. My laptop broke years ago (Infant daughter back then = lost keys and broken monitor), so I never got around to getting a new one until now. Before that I used Chrome. I guess you could say I was using it at first on W8 because of the familiarity.

I have gone back to Chrome though.
