I tend to be the 'fun uncle' to both bio and adopted family. So I get to entertain with kids. We all have a pretty good time. These are the ones that they tend to enjoy, request, and play the most. I put stars on my top 3:

Happy Action Theater and Kinect Party, a bunch fun of 'mini game experiences' ***best for kids***
Kinect Fun Labs - many things, most are free, Bobbleheads, Build a Buddy, Air Band, Googly Eyes, and especially, "I am Super" **super great for kids**
Kinectimals, now with Bears!
Kinect Disneyland Adventures
Sesame Street Kinect
Fruit Ninja Kinect
Nat Geo (National Geographic Kinect.)
Kinect Star Wars - kids LOVED it. *great for kids*
Lego games - Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.

If they are a little bit older they seem to love, Fable II, Plants vs Zombies, and Viva Pinata

And the Mars Rover Landing Kinect (part of Kinect Fun Labs) game is still cool if you can get it.

Edit added a few Fun Labs Games, and connect that Mars Rover Landing was part of it.

i dont care how much you detest xbox and kinect yourself if you have kids its worth getting.  buy it used so you can keep your  sony were #1 position and not add to vgchartz numbers.  lol

I would rather kill myself before i let my kids play those games.
I myself started with Zelda,Super Mario Games,Secret of Mana,Mega Man,Donkey Kong and in general 2 player platformers,Breath of Fire and stuff.
When the PS1 got released i was 6 or 7 years old(95 or 96 was the release date in EU?) and i nearly played already all the good games from the NES and SNES...Continued with Ridge Racer,Tekken and other great PS1 Franchises and till i moved out around in the middle/end of the PS2 Era i played nearly everything together with my parents or at least they liked to watch or i watched them playing.

You see the difference? This was quality gaming and such a big choice directly from the first years of my journey.
Everyone around my age(+- a few years) had the exact same experiences - If i ask someone they will know all those games.

There has to be something like that on current Gen consoles.
Something that will forge and steer you kids into a bright future of gaming where they have an insanely good taste in games.
If you have the choice get all the PS2 Collections and buy the crap out of the PSN and the Classic games there.
Get something like NiNoKuni and play it TOGETHER WITH THEM.Get them interested in reading, loving stories and building their fantasy.
Play with them SNES games and stuff on PC Emulators if you don't have the actual consoles...Gamepads from PS360 work on PC or aren't that expensive anyway.
You still have the chance to lead them and show them a pool of awesome games.
Don't know why kids should get interested in Kinect - If you want to move your body go out and play with them some ballsports or something else.
This will only let them turn into future casuals.

LBP series
Sly Cooper series
Ratchet and Clank
Lego games
Kinect games
Those are some I can think on the top of my head.

all i heard was whon whon whon get playstation whon whon whon get playstation...

i started with some pongish system that had pinball and like 8 other blip games, 2600, intellivision, colecovision, nes, snes, segamaster system, genesis, neo geo, ps1, ps2, ps3, 360, wii and my favorite of all dreamcast.  that dont stop me from getting kids kinected.  theres nothing wrong with kids being active while your sitting on your butt.  were tlking kids not you.  you would swear it was a casual gaming indoctrination.  what you dont realize or maybe you do  gaming future is beyond being lazy twiddling your dumbs.

ps4 has a touch pad and a light in front for a reason.  thats already pass button mashing very minute but it is.  just playing agame with your thumbs wont be enough to be immersive.  i dont know if you saw the video with the kinect setup in a dome with paintballs but thats far from being casual

littlebigplanet 1/2
sly cooper
rayman origins
mortal kombat
littlebgplanet karting
ratchet and clank
playstation all stars

thats all i can think of at the moment

Rayman Origins!? That game will make you throw your controller to the wall lol

i played just the biginning of it, the style seems a lot like what kids would love and the type of game a kids would enjoy as well. i cant comment on the difficulty level though

Playing the game normally is not really challenging, but getting 100% is really hard. The last bonus level still gaves me nightmares.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Playing games with kids is nice when they can be kids and goof around and laugh and just have fun without investing too much in mechanics and complexe reading, stories etc. Kinect has a a lot of games fun for kids and the good thing is that they can play with you and see you doing goofy things they really like it.

I can understand gamers don't want anything to do with kinect but for kids this thing is incredible. Kinect Fun Labs, Sesame Street and Kinect Disney are games they really like. With my nephews I play a lot of Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports.

Joe Danger is a good game for kids, I think, especially as smaller children often don't pay attention to things like rules. I used to play my niece in Gran Turismo, where we'd get Mini Coopers and just drive around slamming each other into walls.

Hamster Ball? :D

Those are all good suggestions. Kids love driving games. My nephews like driving and LEGO games the most. Puzzle games, another favorite, are best left for tablets.

Joe Danger is great, and Hamster Ball is very fun in multiplayer. LocoRoco Cocoreccho and Rocket knight are some other good PSN games. There's a lot on PSN that kids would like.

Rayman Origins for me as well, one of the best 2D platformers since the 16 bit era.
As for it being too tough for kids, I don't recall that being a problem when I was a kid, I played plenty of games then that are still hard for me today.
