I was wondering what you guys thought of this idea.  I first heard about it when watching a documentary about the autobahn on the History Channel.  They were showing a sting on tailgating on the autobahn where they set up a video camera that could measure the correct distance of tailgating and then fined the violators according to income.  So if you were rich and tailgating someone you had to pay a higher fine.  Do you guys support this type of fine increase based on income?

I also like the idea of not being able to pass on the right.  This make the fast lane the true fast lane.  I am tired of driving on the highway and sharing the road with terrible drivers that drive 5-10 mph under the speed limit in the fast lane with no one in front of them thus making people pass on the right.  Shitty drivers make the road conditions worse for people that want to go the speed limit or 5 or so mph faster making them pass on the right which could cause an accident due to lane changes.  American drivers suck due terrible drivers ed/test and laws.

Also it's illegal to drive in the left lane except to pass. Don't need to change the law, just enforce it.

Making rich people pay more for things doesn't make any sense to me. What is this leading to, making them pay more for gas? More for food? More for insaurance? More for rent?

Yeah, let's just charge everyone a flat % of their income so everyone essentially makes the same amount of money at the end of the day.

Rich people can hire good lawyers and get out of most fines/crimes.  Poor people go to jail (or get longer sentences) all the time due to having a shitty lawyer.  A rich person can get away with crimes just by pretty much "buying the court" with a good lawyer.  So poor people have been paying a much greater price with their freedom due to not being able to buy a judgement in our corrupt court system. 

Sadly you only see these signs on two lane highways (left lane used for passing).  Apparently when it goes to three lanes the rules go out the window.

well considering in Australia the bogans are the ones that probably get more traffic infringements I would almost argue the other way.

Wouldn't that make sense though that more poor people get in accidents?  There are more poor people than rich.

Bogans! Oh, I feel so warm and at home when I hear that word on the internet! In my experience, bogans are generally scum, but hearing the word is familiar to an Aussie.

Yes. Rich people should pay more. Why? Because otherwise the fines will be ridiculously small for them and they won't be a big deal for those people. If they can drive as fast as they want for a small fee, why wouldn't they? That said, it all depends on where you live; I don't know how easy it is to take one's driver's license away when there's a good reason to do so.

I wouldn't support fines based on income for all violations but I believe some might be warranted. Take speeding for an example. A poor person could have half to their entire paycheck for a week nullified due to going 1-4 mph over the speed limit (least expensive speeding ticket in USA) while it wouldn't affect a rich person at all. My sister's husband is one of these semi "rich" people that doesn't give a fuck (he probably gets at least 3 each year). The fine is more likely to change a poor person's driving habits.
