Apparently not that good a game designer.

Apparently none of these three are.

how dare you put cliffy b in the same post as kojima and miyamoto

As shown above in a previous post he has made hit game after hit game.  gears, Unreal tournament,  Jazz Jackrabbit, Infinity Blade, Shadow Complex, he was also working on Fortnite.  Most of those are in just the last 5 years.  Tell me who else has a track record like that?   he has yet to make a bad game.  Kojima has only made one good series and I included him.  Miyamoto is just a legend that has some of the most iconic characters of all time.

Use your brain.

Go ahead and start naming them.  These are the first 3 guys that comes to my mind.  There are other great caliber developers but id like you to name some that has yet to make a bad game and has thrown hit after hit out there.

Im not saying Cliff is the best ever and he is actually hated by many because of his attitude but you would be a fool to say he is bad at what he does because only a few developers can say they have achieved as much as he has in a short amount of time.

I gave you a hint already. You like metacritic scores, right? Take a look at the score of every game he has directed:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hideki_Kamiya

And that is a great track record.  As i said there are other gret caliber designers but not many is at that level.  Read my posts again. I never said that these are the only 3. These are the ones that came to my mind first and most of my responses was not towards you.  And when I said some I meant more than one.  There are great designers but the previous guy laughing because I put Cliff on that list is of poor judgement.  same goes to people making fun of Peter Molyxnuex.  He has been great and even Fable as a whole has been great.  3 was not so good but he has a lot of games from the 90s that was good too.

You still haven't noticed that I already said Hideki Kamiya before all that with my "use your brain" post, and that that was my answer to your "Tell me who else has a track record like that?" question, right?

lmao XD ohhhhh.  I would have never figured it out if you didnt tell me just now haha

On a side note, i didnt know he made Bayonetta.  Good job

I'm depressed because he didn't mention my idol and living legend Todd Howard, but I guess he still has a point.

Kamiya's directors list reads like a gaming's best. Not one of his directed games have scored under 90% (PS3 Bayonetta nonwithstanding). As for Kojima, the man is a bonafide genius, Snatcher and Policenauts are classics of the adventure genre, Boktai was clever and innovative and ZOE 2 still needs that sequel and while crafting the Fox engine, still had time to produce Castlevania: LoS and direct Peacewalker. Metal Gear merely pays the bills so Kojima can indulge in more esoteric projects. Miyamoto, goes without saying. No other director/producer has made games in this industry that has both the critical mass and commercial success of this man. From Donkey Kong, to a very hands on producer of Metroid Prime to Wii Sports, he's the undisputed king. Shinji Mikami is another acclaimed hitmaker I would add, RE, RE4, Dino Crisis 1, Vanquish, the upcoming Zwei and the criminally overlooked Godhand. As for Garriot, guys a blockhead who hasn't had a hit since the 90's. Ultima never made or will make FF numbers.

I agree with him, but I also feel that he should include himself in the category of game designers that suck.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

People who live in glass houses... should've never made Tabula Rasa.

Ha ha ha, that is full re-entry burn right there!

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Hmmm, I wouldn't say we suck, Mr Garriott. We just need to go back to the drawing board in some areas, which is one of the reasons I decided to join the industry in the first place.

Didn't know you were so in-touch with the Industry! ò.O You gotta show me what you've done 'till now.

Sure will, bud. :)

I'll have something in June, just wait!

I'll be patient :3

This guy struck it lucky and was able to make a game that made his name. He can now choose his projects. Has every game hes made been brilliant? Debataile.
...
i would love to pick ten unknown designers including mr Garriot, give them equal funds and tell them to make me a game. Then we would see how good you really were.

Garriott may be the opposite of a humble person, but do yourself a favor and look up the history of RPGs. You'll find out that he's one of the most influential persons in videogaming history. He doesn't have to prove his talent anymore, he proved it more than 30 years ago.

Just had a quick look at the mans biography and i must say i stand corrected. He rarely strays beyond Ultima but when he does its with flair.

I based my comment on what I knew of him ie very little. Very interesting man with his fingers in a lot of pies in all aspects of gaming. But with his vast experience he shohld realise that gaming has changed. Teams are no longer small and rarely rely on a single designer. Its much harder to make their mark.

But again, i owe the man an apology.

This is kind of like the argument that Napoleon got lucky in his conquest of Europe. Fortune no doubt played a role, but it's difficult to see any person being so lucky for so very long.

Well, that's rather conceited from somebody who hasn't really made anything since the 1990s.

There are plenty of great developers out there.

But there are far, far, far more crappy ones. Which is not unexpected; someone else in this thread pointed out that just about every industry has 99 turds for every gem (paraphrasing). That's true of movies, books, television, radio, etc. It's hard to argue with that general proposition.

Of course, he seems to be implying that videogames suffers from an even greater deficit of talent than those fields. I agree wholeheartedly.

I based my comments without knowing much about the man. Ive had a quick look and he is a very talented designer. Now whilst luck wouldnt have gotten him this far it has to be said thst he tends not to stray to far from Ultima. Anything he has made outside of that ive never heard off. Im not saying i know everything about games but if hes that good why havnt i heard of his games?

I can't disagree with him, but I will say that publishers who are not knowlegdeable about gaming tends to have a firm grip on developers who actually wants to break out of the box. And it would help him more to choose his words more accordingly with his cause... -_-'
