Forums - Gaming Discussion - VGLeaks: First look at Durango XDK (always connected, kinect required, no play from optical discs))

-Kinect required for system to function, sold with every system
-Games can't be played from disc, they must be installed to HDD.(like on PC)
-As a result you can't resell your games AKA this console won't play used games
-Always Connected console. Whether an internet connection is required to use the console itself is still a mystery.

PS4 wins next-gen confirmed. I don't see how anyone can put a positive spin on this.
PS4 will have

-Optional Kinectl-like camera
-Games can be played from disc or installed on HDD, you choose what you want to install or not
-Plays Used Games
-Internet Connection optional

I really don't get it.

It's their way of giving Gamestop the middle finger. The console won't play used games.

Wins what? None of this is true until Microsofts confirms it.

I'm in the same boat as you, EXCEPT that's going to be a frick ton of storage! I survived the whole gen with my 20GB launch 360, no way will I be able to replicate that with the 720 without upgrading hard drives every year.

yeah the documentation says "it will have enough space" whatever that is but the good thing is, if i finished a game i can delete it and when i want to play it a second time a year later or something i can just start it and it will install in the backround for a second time. there won't be the problem anymore that you have to wait until it's installed which means i have no problem with deleting games all the time.

That is actually a great idea from Microsoft....except they made it mandatory. User should be able to choose whether or not to install their games to the hard drive especially when these next-gen games will be upwards of 50GB.

Why are people getting worked up over a rumour?

Because it comes from a reliable source, the source which leaked the PS4 specs months in advance. Microsoft is basically turning consoles into PCs, and that includes the bad parts that come with it. I was worried about this since the first XBox came out and from what PS3/360 have done. I just hope the public is informed enough to recognize how MS is screwing consumers with this console(if this is true)

That has nothing to do with whether the console is playing used games or not. First question is does the console check whether the disk is loaded when playing, second question is does "the system" check if the game (installed from the same disk) is running on two consoles. Essentially whether MS keeps a database of which game (serial number x) runs on which console (serial number y) or not.

Also the "play game while installing" is of course total bullshit, same total bullshit as in the PS4 presentation. If you want to run a game, you need the game code and game data variables defined in the ram, as well as the graphics data present when you start the game. What it means you will see non-skippable, lame introductions on your screen while the complete game and game data loads in the backrgound.

Yawn, haven't you guys got some riveting PS4 threads to post in rather than coming in here to annoy Microsoft fans based on unsubstantiated rumour. ANYONE could fake those screenshots.

If true, then either Nintendo or Sony have won the next generation console war without lifting a finger.

why bother paying royalty's for a blue ray drive when games have to be installed anyways

Anyone think we should start collecting all these posts ready for the big console reveal then do one big name and shame thread when half the crap people have been suckered into believing turns out to be bullshit. For the record, there is no wonder Sony's PS4 specs were leaked, they're hopeless at keeping secrets as we've seen all gen with the leaks for each new PS3 and PSP hardware revision.

You have to ask why Microsoft would do this required download. It's potentially due to blu-ray read speads, and/or because Microsoft wants a digital only future. Personally that second option sounds very realistic and Microsoft only has a disc drive to please people with bad internet and retailers. There's no used games in the digital marketplace so it's fairly reasonable that they'd block them to help increase digital adoption rates.

Also the "play game while installing" is already on Steam. It works...
