Forums - Sony Discussion - HeavenlyKing- GOW: Ascension REVIEW (no spoilers)

Great review. The game's setting couldn't have been possibly more epic for a prequel but plot-wise things could have gone a little further. Of course GOW 3 was indeed meant to be epic. What won me over was the game's overhaul received in the graphics department. The lighting and display textures of character models edged out GOW 3's, an impressive feat. The fluidity with 40+ frame rate at such levels of visual fidelity was technically impressive as well. Secondly the combat methods/style of dodging sequences with bosses, was an interesting addition.

I also experienced the aforementioned sound glitches and ran into a couple of other bugs which required a restart. The Trial of Archimedes is definitely an endurance test of skills and as a gamer I was obliged to finish it in the best possible way. GOW: Ascension was indeed the game I was looking forward to releasing since GOW 3. All the boss battles were equally epic. But to me the Poseidon and Zeus battles of GOW 3 simply remains second to none in the series.

A clear 9/10 for GOW: Ascension.

The game is a solid 9. Most fun I've had all year and I don't see myself moving from it for a while. Even after I get the Last of Us I'll just play both simultaneously.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

i knew GOW:A was perfect

I'm liking it a lot. Combat is improved, the new combat minigames when killing some enemies are way better than the QTEs on earlier games. It's harder than GOW3 and enemies put a better fight for sure. Graphics are beyond amazing, everything is a joy to the eyes.

MP is great. I'm just playing Favor of The Gods, that mode is amazing because there is a lot of possibilities to win points and the combat is very ballanced and deep.

Nice review mate! (even though I disagree on it being a masterpiece)

Really enjoyed it up until the trials of archimdes. I've played the game through on hard and got up to the trials with only two magic bars and 4/5 full health bar, so I'm pretty much screwed. Started the game again earlier on hard but this time I'm going to have to max out kratos.

Graphically it's the best game of this generation on consoles. It looks and runs amazingly well. A definite improvement over god of war 3. It's already been mentioned by others but there are quite a few sound glitches throughout the game. I wouldn't say the bosses are as memorable as those in god of war 3 but they are very good. Poseidon and cronos were the pinnacle of the whole series I think, however the hecatoncreas is definitely up there. I've yet to see the final boss but I've heard it's epic.

A few problems I have with the game are the enemies which I think are completely unbalanced. Some enemies take farrrr too many hits to kill and they make kratos seem somewhat underpowered compared to previous god of war games. Also, seeing as this is a time just after kratos murders his own family and breaks his oath to ares, I just feel like there's a lack of emotion from him throughout the game. He just seems a bit too plain to me.

Overall it's a great game SO FAR. A solid 8.5/10 for me. It just doesn't topple god of war 3.

I don't even know how you got into this situation, as there are health and magic chests right before you begin with the trial of Archimides, but you know that you can select  a chapter and you'll start at the begenning of it with the exact orbs, health, magic, upgrades as you played it your 1st time, right? In case that you just can't beat the Trials, just go a chapter back and make sure you're full on health and magic before the trial.

As for the review, I give it a 8.5

Great game but behind GoW 2 and 3. Played the MP once and it was ok, but I'd rather play another game's SP instead. To those that have more time than money for games, the MP could delivered further several hours of fun, for sure.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Hands down, the game is easily a twelve. Come on!

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Don't see any issue with giving a game you like a 10/10 score, you're obviously a target customer for the game so your opinion is likely to be shared by other fans with similar tastes.
