Forums - Sales Discussion - UK market February -- Wii U 25k -- Vita 35K

As bad as the Wii U and Vita are doing, I almost think the bigger story is the 3DS.  Going into its third year, it ought to be hitting its stride, but it seems to be falling flat on its face.  It wouldn't surprise me if Brain Training and Nintendogs alone sold more in February 2007 than all 3DS software in Feb 2013.  I'm not really sure what it can do to turn things around.  It has Mario Kart, it has NSMB, Nintendogs, 3D mario, and a Training game (not out in Europe, but it hasn't made much of a splash in Japan and the US).  Maybe Animal Crossing and Pokemon will do it, but Pokemon doesn't do nearly as well in Europe as elsewhere, and Animal Crossing on the DS did better in Japan than elsewhere (even more so if we look at just the first couple years of sales).

A little context of what the numbers mean would be nice

Just software for the UK. Units and revenue (when you click on the link).

The biggest story here is the fact the Wii U is flopping.. nintendo's next gen console..

The Wii was their only console to ever do more than 9 million outside Japan and the Americas.  Their handhelds on the other hand did 42 million, 23m, and 61m.  We also haven't seen if software or price drops can affect Wii U hardware sales yet.  I don't think it has much hope of a massive turnaround, but it still has a chance.  The 3DS on the other hand has played most of its cards, and while sales aren't awful it really shouldn't be seeing large YoY drops at this point in its life.  In comparison (not perfect, but to show general trends) the DS went from shipping 14 million software in Ja-Mr 2006 to 30 million the same quarter next year.  If the 3DS is flat YoY it will only have about 8 million in an equivalent quarter.

Lol. Lots of Nintendo haters in UK.

So the PSV is doing about as well as the PSP did, but 3DS and Wii U are getting outsold by their last gen couterparts. Ouch. Not very good for such a major market.
