As bad as the Wii U and Vita are doing, I almost think the bigger story is the 3DS. Going into its third year, it ought to be hitting its stride, but it seems to be falling flat on its face. It wouldn't surprise me if Brain Training and Nintendogs alone sold more in February 2007 than all 3DS software in Feb 2013. I'm not really sure what it can do to turn things around. It has Mario Kart, it has NSMB, Nintendogs, 3D mario, and a Training game (not out in Europe, but it hasn't made much of a splash in Japan and the US). Maybe Animal Crossing and Pokemon will do it, but Pokemon doesn't do nearly as well in Europe as elsewhere, and Animal Crossing on the DS did better in Japan than elsewhere (even more so if we look at just the first couple years of sales).
