Forums - PC Discussion - EA: We rejected offline play for SimCity because "it didn't fit with our vision."

If there's one thing I've learned since I started coming to internet forums, it's that games are art, and that an artist's vision is the most important thing. So what's the problem here?

Don't use "Art" as an excuse to defend douchey business practices. Having a vision does not make a company exempt from criticism.

A large segment of the development community and enthusiast press, at least, disagree. After all, isn't the artist supposed to have freedom to do whatever he wants?

That doesn't exempt them from criticism either.

:D

"our vision of controlling, analysing and manipulating our cows uhhm I mean customers." (you know the thinks that can be milked)

Btw I thought Maxis (obviously without any force by EA) admited it was their fault?

Now its EA saying its their fault? It's nice to see that EA being the savior and taking the blame to protect Maxis (LOL just kidding)

Too bad when EA is not smart enough to maintain their little damage control conspiracy xD

Btw THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE AT ALL in always online games  for the consumers. NOT 1 single advantage.   If its about cheat systems etc  there is always the way of games like Phantasy Star Online which had an Offline and a seperate online mode.   Just make the users have offline savegames and add another mode where the savegames are saved online    problem solved.

I don't buy the whole "games as art" argument. Not because I don't love games. I do!
I just find the definition of Art very self-limiting and kinda unsuited to games.
If you mod someone else's game, are you defacing their art?
Also, I do not care about Roger Ebert's opinion on videogames.

Since you obviously just want to shackle art, the only appropriate term for you is "Philistine."

Are you trolling?

I prefer offline play. I don't like mandatory online connection or play. If I want that, I would prefer to be able to choose it as an option.

Cannot stay connected.  Have yet to put in over an hour without losing the connection.  Hell, atleast now I can actually get connected.

And its not my internet.  Been gaming for 4 hours today and been part of a steam voice  chat without issue that entire time.  There are 3 people I know how are playing this as well and none of them are having much luck staying connected either.
