Reggie represents nobody and has no power to get anything done.
Nintendo has turned in a old boys club for old Japanese designers in their 60s now spear headed by Iwata and Miyamoto on their board of directors. So everything is done to their fetishes and design tastes.
Yamauchi and Lincoln were not like that at all, they were business men first and foremost, I think it's actually to Nintendo's deteriment that they've lost focus on this and become a much more niche-style Japan focused company.
Howard Lincoln brought Nintendo Rareware, which brought us gamers GoldenEye, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day. He brought Nintendo Retro Studios which was supposed to provide many great games, but eventually got stripped down to just a Metroid studio, but that still gave us the Metroid Prime games and DKCR. He brought Nintendo the Star Wars games (Rogue Squadron and Factor 5). He inked the deal to get Silicon Knights. He spear headed Nintendo sports games like Ken Griffey Jr. baseball, Kobe Bryant NBA Courtside, Excitebike 64, etc.
Name one iniative that Reggie has done other than huff and puff on stage at E3? NOA is a big fat zero, too afraid to localize Xenoblade on time and didn't even bother with a perfectly good game in The Last Story either.
