Forums - Gaming Discussion - Journey gets a 40, halo 4 20 on Metacritic. Quarter to Three should be removed from metacritic

It is all from the same reviewer which I will link you to his profile but let's look at some of the games he has scored.

http://www.metacritic.com/publication/quarter-to-three?filter=games&page=2

Halo 4 - 20

Max Payne 3 - 40

Journey - 40

Far Cry 3 60

PlayStation All Stars - 20

Starcraft Heart of the Warm - 40

Forza Horizon - 60

And much more

Agreed,Quarter to Three reviews are load of crap lol!

The one for Journey makes me laugh. 76 positive reviews; 1 negative review. No middle ground there, lol.

But yeah, I noticed that a while ago. They just review on a different scale to everyone else. Their Halo 4 review is pants; I didn't read any of their others.

And this is one of the many reasons why I only use Metacritic to search out reviews I want to read. It's not the be-all-and-end-all because of things like this.

Someone gave Halo a 20, wow. I can get not liking the game but giving it a 20 is just unprofessional.

I would say that he reviews on a different scale than most but he has plenty of games with 100 out of 100 reviews.  He seems to be taking some of the most popular ones on the internet and then giving it an extremely low score.

And if you read his reviews it shows he has no clue what he is talking about and possibly may have not even played the games.  It is unprofessional and shouldnt even be on the list

No, what I mean is: look at one or two of his reviews.  They (or he) reviews on a 1-5 star scale with no half stars.  So something they like will get 5 stars which on Metacritic automatically gets converted to 100 - even though if they were reviewing on a 100-point-scale it could be anything from 81 upwards (at a push).  That's more a problem with metacritic than the reviewer's score.

Though I agree about your second point.  The actual quality of the reviews is just pants.

Yeah, there is no reason for someone wasting all their hard earned cash on games he doesn't enjoy (I doubt this guy gets a reviewer copy)... these scores would be for absolute distaste for the game no matter what scale you are using

Ok i see what you are saying.  Yeah the 5/5 and 10/10 should be universal and not really sure why it isnt required already.

But yeah when i saw Joruney and Halo 4 get those low scores i never looked into it I just thought it was dumb and moved on.  I just now found out today that those reviews all came from the same guy -_-  Both of those games was 2 of the best games last year and to give them that, ehhh

I remember reading this particular review on metacritic back in the day: http://www.avclub.com/articles/uncharted-3-drakes-deception,64220/ It was so badly written and it received so much hate. Not that I'm against low scores, as long as it is justified. The guy wasn't even trying.

Do people seriously use metacritic as a viable metric towards a game's worth? Imo, the best way is to try the games yourself.

They gave Xenoblade 100/100 so they're trustable.
