Good review, it seems GoW2 gets a lot of praise and it's many peoples favorite. About to start it now. TBH I found the multiplayer pretty refreshing.

it just edges out 3 for me.  Improves the navigation and has more boss fights than one and just a better overall adventure (Pandora's Temple was too long in 1 but I guess that was partly the intention to make you feel like it'd never end like I did the first time I played).  Also the final couple fights are incredible.  The only reason it edges out 3 is because it did such amazing things on PS2 and still holds up so wonderfully.  3 does as well and I'm sure it will continue to, but 2 did it a generation earlier and delivered something not many thought possible on PS2...kinda like Ascension has done with PS3.

I'm always torn between 2 and 3. I think 2 has better overall boss fights, but 3 has more memorable boss fights. And yes....its amazing what 2 was able to accomplish. I still think that, in terms of scale, the jump between 1 and 2 is bigger that the jump between 2 and 3.

it is like splitting hairs though.  They're both so fully loaded.  2 has the Sisters, colossus, Zeus, Krakken, Perseus (I think, the one that turns invisible), Barbarian King and Theseus but 3 counters with Hades, Poseidon, slightly worse Zeus (imo but maybe that's just because there was less hype after already facing him once and nearly killing him), Hercules (favorite in the series love that slugmatch and the finish), the scorpion (random but a cool fight), and Hermes.  2 has that awesome horse whipping and flight sections, but 3 has you flying through the shafts at breakneck pace and fighting a level (Cronos) the size of a city.  I don't know!  Good thing I can play both in HD lol

I don't understand how 42/50 is a 9/10.

But meh whatever system you have.

The partially grades dont really weigh in on the final one. It's only giving a metric on where I feel that specific area to be. Sorry if that confused you ^^

For the sake of simplicty fior the average reader, maybe just add a little caption stating "Final score not an average"
But it's a well written reveiw, certainly got what you thought of the game across well ^^

I'm on chapter 24 on hard and the game so far is a 95, straight up amazing and I didn't think a prequel would be just as good as gow 3 but with better combat and lesser scope because of the giant battles and gods in 3. As a huge gow fan I can safely say this game does not disappoint and the so called journalists have the worst opinion on this game. God of War still reigns as the best hack and slash series ever created.

I just finished my hard playthough and I have to say the final battle is probably my favorite final fight in the series (maybe GoS tops it...just because they did it on PSP).  It's the only one other than GoS's that feels like they ended on the highest note.  For me GoW1 peaked with the Hydra (loved the game but the opening is what I remember the most), GoW2 with the Sisters, CoO with Charon, GoS with Death, and GoW3 with Hercules.  That's not to say their final bosses were bad, but for me they didn't top earlier parts of the game so that I don't view them as highly as other parts.  Hercules is still my favorite but that final boss is right up there with him and the hydra now.

Wow i can't wait to see the final battle now, i was hearing that in reviews saying the ending is amazing but for some reason they still give the game like an 8, made no sense.

I am hardly that far into Ascension yet but I am loving it so far. I really like how different the combat feels without completely mixing it up. I'm anxious to get investing into the multiplayer (Leonidas baby!) but am waiting until the weekend when I can make that xp bonus go to work for me. Hope I see lots of you online experiencing the MP, it was a welcomed change to an online experience that was so different from other games.

A friend felt that what I said was not a representative of the 9 I gave the game. I personally disagree but I did add a paragraph to summarize my point basically. I felt that'd be a good addition.

->

"Despite the story lacking in comparison to previous titles: there is still an adventure that is enjoyable with some of the best gameplay, graphics, sound, puzzles and more. That is in of itself, rather spectacular. The campaign may be an 8/10 at best but the multiplayer saves this game from falling short compared to the standards that has been set by the rest of the series."

And guys: The MP is fun as hell!

The story a 5/10...should be at least a 7.5-8.

You mean according to you? Yeah well, different strokes for different folkes :P

I really enjoyed the game. The campaign was a great 8 to me. But the only issue I had was the story. If it was more engaging, I'd give the game a 9. If it even was emotional too, a 10! But it fell short imo. Luckily the MP adds a point.

A 5/10 would mean that it would be better if it didn't have a story...anyway for the most part its a pretty decent review.

Perhaps that is what I am implying :P

No seriously though, I see the 5/10 as average. It was a very average story. It didn't add a whole lot to the game in my opinion. Luckily the rest of the game is pretty damn good. Maybe even above the rest of the series which says a lot. Thanks for reading, appreciate it!

I sadly can't play the game yet but how can the story only be a 5/10? That's almost as bad as GOWII's story!

A story can be badly told as well as just plain bad.

I would say that the story itself is rather ..-little-.

Theres not much "story" going on. I wouldn't say that the story itself is bad. I did enjoy some of it hence the average score (5/10).

But the biggest negative factor is the story telling. That on the other hand is nearly lacking completely especially at the beginning of the game.

I'm sure if someone could look into the amount of cutscenes or voice acting work and compare them to previous GoWs, we would see something rather surprising in terms of how little Ascension has. As for a GoW fan: I feel Ascension added the least to Kratos. Even Chains of Olympus did a better job at that. Even if you dislike all that "Hope" in GoW3: It was still much more in terms of content when it comes to Kratos as a character.

Wut, I liked GoWII's story even though I don't remember much of it lol

I'm actually having trouble finishing GoW2 because the story feels almost non-existant most of the time. I've beaten all of the other games but GoW2 and Ascension (getting soon).

Ascensions story is even less existant. I hope GoW2 is putting you off too much :P.

I liked the review!

This rage meter mechanic, is it the same as in Dante's Inferno?

Glad you did :D

No idea! I played Dante's Inferno ages ago at a friends and I never really finished it. I can't recall it!
