??? I know that I will pay for XBL before I bought the console. I proactivly made this decision. "Hmm, ~3 Euros a month? That's ok" and then bought the console. And please stop calling someones arguments rediculous and stop saying that I am attempting anything. I mean every word I type here. If you find this is not legit this is one thing but don't try to make a fool of me - I don't want to talk to people on this level of conversation.

Obviously you have an opinion about XBL but it seems you also have an opinion about the people using it and their motivations and I can tell you that this generalization is definitely wrong.

@bold, and I have no argument with this line of thought. It's the exact line of thinking that led me to realize that being forced to pay to play online is an awful concept.

What I took issue with was your "I can afford it" argument. I can afford to drop $30 on a hot dog, but that doesn't mean it's worth it when there's a guy handing out free ones across the street where any perceived advantage to the $30 hot dog is negligible at best.

Nope, I have an opinion about those justifying paying for XBL with nonsensical reasons like "I can afford it".

Do whatever you want but no one is forcing anybody to anything. If you want to discuss "free will" again "forced will" in our society, go to a lecture called "philosophy" but they will force you first in a lecture called "logic" in first before starting with real philosophical topics (and to get rid of the people who just want to talk nonsense because they think this is what philosophy is about). There are a lot of things in this world you are forced to and don't know it. And most probably they tell you that bad comparisons don't prove anything true or wrong.

But I can tell you for sure that I am not "forced" to pay for the service.

Quote tree left untouched so you can see how your last reponse had nothing to do with my previous post. If you're going to quote me, respond to me, don't go off on some tangential, off-topic, remark.

At bolded. This is where you and many others constantly fail to understand. Based on your opinions and viewpoints, there is no perceived advantage. But based on many millions of others, there obviously is.

I don't know how many times in the past I have written up very detailed responses to the ever drudging and repetitive "Xbox Live is not worth it and is not better than PSN" threads. It all boils down to Xbox Live having much better social aspects and community, much better online game performance, consistency throughout every game/experience, and just the overall quality of all the various experiences that can be had. Those experiences can easily justify a $3 monthly cost to people.

When an experience is not fun or enjoyable to an individual, it is not worth it, even if it is free. People pay for their fun/competitive/enjoyable/consistent/social experiences that they feel are better on Xbox Live than on other competing services.

I have no dispute with this. It's your opinion that match-making and cross-game chat and whatever other social features you neglected to mention are worth $100+. And I really don't take issue with the total package, it's strictly the audacity to charge for basic online multiplayer.

I would like to request the 1 minute I wasted reading this article....

For Michael.

I always find this fable entertaining.

Wondering why there was a poll for this when 90% of the people on here only care about Sony.

Bow, kneel, heal!!!

It's like 2 people going to a Jay Z concert and start singing Neil Diamond songs. lol!!

It's a package deal. Microsoft decided it would be best to group the basic online play with all the features a player would need to have the best experience. Because of this, it costs more to them to maintain and thus they charge for it.

They could offer a stripped down version, but they must have decided they would rather offer the full complete package rather than divide their online base into separate tiers. This may change with the new generation though, and with rumors of all online services going the way of the ala carte cable plan method. Pick and choose what you want, pay for those options only.

lol Opinions really are like assholes, everyone's got one

Didn't I write that story a year ago? Well, something similar about multi-plats. Still....
