Forums - Sony Discussion - Forbes: "Social Media Buzz Points To Strong Demand For Sony PlayStation 4"

"Over 8.1 million gamers around the world watched the PlayStation Meeting "

How do they know how much people watched it?

Sony is doing a good job. Microsoft really needs to deliver on their nextbox530 presentation, if they hope to focus attention onto their own next generation product.

Another 8 months until the next generation begins! Eggciting.

29 percent are interested, while 71 percent aren't. It's a small form of hype, but not anything major. In time and closer to launch, it will build. Who knows. I was at Walmart last week and a mother was buying 3 PS3 games for her two sons. I told them, "you know Sony is releasing the PS4 this fall." The one boy didn't even know there was a PS4 announcement. The mother then said, "oh great, another console to buy." I then said, "It can't play PS3 games either." She then said, "then what's the point in buying PS3 games now?" The other boy replied, "Sony sure is stupid. Why can't the system be like the PS2?" I then told him, "It's all about the money..."

ummmm...ok.  Didn't have anything to do with completely changing the architecture?  Did you mention it would increase the cost of the system over $100?  Did you say PS3 games will still be fun and Sony will still support it for a couple more years with new games?  Man what is it with store employees these days and their anti sony agenda?  Also one boy not knowing means nothing.  I know a lot of casual gamers (COD or 2K basketball only) and they know about PS4.  It hasn't even been E3 yet.

The general public is unaware of the PS4, non-gamers per se. None of my friends at my church group know about the PS4, and they play video games. I am not a store employee, btw. I'm a teacher's assistant at a daycare

Well shit, I am getting it so I understand the hype.

still though no reason to agree and act like it's some sort of filthy business decision or that PS3 will be abandoned.  No one supports  legacy like Sony and no generation had lasted this long from what I remember.

It's not Forbes, it's a random blogger posting on their website.

It should still indicate that there is a healthy level of hype though. The fan have been helping with that. 8.1 million views is good. Does it state wether they were live views? People re watchig the controller reveal or the several game reveal/trailers that were there is probably fairly common too.

It already has....

Just because your prefered brand hasn't released a console yet doesn't mean the WiiU doesn't exist.

Consoles are always good for their gens, unlike PCs and x360 the broken one of course.

If Sony supports "legacy," then why was backwards compatibility taken out of the PS3? Cutting costs. The same reason why PS4 won't play PS3 games. However they are making up for it with cloud integration later on with the PS4 so those games can be streamed to the console.

I mean they come out with more games and budget priced collections late in a console's life than anyone.  Use the money you don't have to spend on BC to get PS3 games or PS4 stuff since it'll be cheaper.  They will support PS3 till at least 2015 compare that to MS or Nintendo and the last year of their 7th gen consoles.  GoW, LoU, Puppeteer, Beyond, NiNoKuni, Sly, GT6 (possibly), PSallstars vs. Halo 4, Xenoblade, Zelda SS, Gears Judgement, Forza Horizon.  Even when you combine their competitors there's no comparison.
