If we take what we know about the PS4 and what we know about the next Xbox by the rumors the answer will be no when looking at it with a historical context. The PS4 seems to be the most power of the three with the RAM being the deciding factor between the next Xbox and PS4. And historically in none of the previous generations has the over all "powerful" console had the best selling system. Taking the last three gens the "winners" were the PS, PS2 and Wii. And the most "powerful" consoles for those gens were the N64, Xbox and PS3.

Though depending on what Microsoft intends to do with its machine it may be a two horse race between Sony and Nintendo, that is if Microsoft continues it Live initiative making the gaming portion a portal that can be accessed anywhere, which may be the case since there where indications that Microsoft is looking into building it own streaming services, which would make the next Xbox little more then a media center portal. Then it comes down to who can keep the prices low and get the games.

To be fair though... this situation is a bit different.

The Wii U is currently floundering around gamecube levels i believe. (possibly even lower.)

Which unless there is a PS3 like comeback relativly soon, or the gaming market has shrunken quite a bit, likely means it's going to be out of the picture.  It isn't impossible but i wouldn't bank on it.

That leaves Sony vs Micorsoft... and Microsoft has shown issues selling outside the US so far.  The two wil be a LOT more close technically then a lot of people want to believe, but even still, i wonder if Microsoft will be able to penetrate Europe enough.... Europe caring more about racing and FIFA then the US cares about FPS and Madden. and Playstation argueably has an even bigger reputation for those games.  (Gran Turismo basically being a bigger deal to racing games then Halo is to FPS.)

The Wii U is currently floundering around near Wii levels, but much higher then PS3/360 levels.

The Wii U has already shown a lot of good 3rd party exclusive support while the PS4 shows a mostly mediocre 3rd party exclusive support, it's like comparing E3 2010 3DS to E3 2011 PS Vita 3rd party comparison all over again.

If you want to show the PS4 somehow getting a better library, then you will have to wait til E3 2013 and hope it shows more system sellers then the Wii U will show.

Depends on the price. If its more than $450 then I think it will sell poorly.

Shouldn't be too hard, as long as they avoid Nintendo's mistakes with the WiiU.

All it needs is:
A solid marketing campaign
At least one system seller at launch
A steady stream of games, no 4 month droughts
Affordable price tag

A Solid marketing campaign is how the PS Vita failed. It was all hype for something that is just a PSP with better graphics, and they took forever to bring people a second analog that no one needs it anymore for Handhelds, and realize that it was never needed for Hanhelds. Besides the 3DS has proven that it's more better to aim with touch screen then analog as shown in such games as Dillon's Rolling Western 1 & 2 and Kid Icarus: Uprising, and that it is also more better to aim with motion sensors then analog as shown in Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D & Resident Evil: Revelations 3D.

The last thing you want to sale a gaming system on, is hype; because people have PCs & Smartphones & Tablets.

If you sale a gaming system on such things as features & software then you will get sales, otherwise you will fall hard.

lulz. if only your facts were in fact factual..

Maybe. All depends on MS. They will own the biggest market in gaming next gen. What Sony did rebounding with the PS3 is nice but catching the 360 and eventually overtaking it is less of an accomplishment, especially when you realize they basically had a free territory all to themselves in Japan.

I predict a level competition with Microsoft again.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

The sales are less then the Wii, but more higher then the Ps3 & 360.

Just compare the first several months sales to each other.

And if the Ps4 sales much better then the PS3 did, then that will be Wii U sales, but NOT Wii sales.

But if the Wii U is selling less then Wii for first several months then maybe the PS4 will sale less better then PS3 for first several months.

Either way, the PS4 has to much to overcome if it wants Wii sales.
