at this point i think it's 50/50. i'm throwing nintendo out because if nintendo "wins" this generation there will be no games industry to win.

what? You're completely out of it dude.

Wii U flopped and doesnt look like doing much better then GC. So unless the price difference between PS4 and 720 is $200 or more like this gen then PS4 should take top spot easly. Especially when both will launch at the same time.

flopped? really already? You know something I don't?  haha yeh ok dude. Lets see how PS4 does it's first few months. I'm guessing worse than Wii U as most of the big games launchng for the PS4 are also getting PS3 releases.

Well with the Wii U out of the picture I could def see this happening.

Out of the picture? I believe the current score is...

Wii U - over 2 million

PS4 - Zero

Technically it is Sony that is currently "out of the picture" in the next gen war :P

Let us also not forget Wii U has yet to have a significant game since launch. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, my Sony friend. PS3s stumble out the gate when everyone declared Sony dominance should have taught you that.

It's actually quite sad that you took my comment so seriously that you decided to prove me wrong by saying that Nintendo is beating the competition when there is no competition. Well done.

And perhaps even sadder that you took MINE seriously.

You seemed to put a lot of effort into it. Plus you wouldn't have even bothered replying if you had assumed that I was just kidding. You replied for a reason and that was to try to prove me "wrong".

They've announced 4 exclusive games in one event and all 4 are coming only to the PS4. We still got E3 and the console won't launch till at least October.

Well it all comes down to the prime use of video game consoles: The Games. I see Nintendo's first parties kicking butt as always but third parties are too scared to experiment with Wii U. I don't see why considering that you can play games with a Xbox360 like controller. You don't have to use the GamePad 3rd parties! I already know somebody will mention space and graphics but really, what else do you need?

Nope. It may look like they have potential, but nearly everytime Sony has some potential, they manage to fuck up.

Source: the 7th generation.

Stating that a console flopped right out the gate is kind of insane. Can we at least wait until E3? No smart person is going to immediately buy a $499 low end PC game machine without any games. Well... any new games.

This is a brilliant example of seeing what you wanted to see.

Sony managed to keep the PS3 afloat despite it's poor launch on the strength of the PS2 - they were still making a lot of money from the PS2, and there was a consensus from industry 'experts' that the Wii would sell 9-18 million, the 360 would sell 30-50 million and the PS3 would dominate like the PS2 did. Analysts are not making that prediction anymore, and Sony is in a very dangerous financial situation - they can't take the same loss per console sale this time round.

You say that the PS4's online is comparable to Xbox live and consider that a good thing? You don't think that, maybe Microsoft has some announcements for improvements to xbox live to go with their new console announcement? You're comparing features that Sony has announced, not even for at the release of their console, but for an unspecified time in the future, to MS's current features.

You point to the sales of the Wii U as a reason for Sony not to worry, but you are forgetting that the WiiU had great sales at launch (when it had big games) and that the WiiU has games that will release before or at the same time as the PS4 that will outsell anything currently released on the PS3, and will likely outsell any PS4 game (Wii Fit U and quite possibly Mario Kart U, which will be playable at E3).

As for the 720 being less powerful, how is that relevant? The Wii is still 20 something million ahead of either competition despite being incredibly less powerful, the PS2 was only more powerful than the Dreamcast, and yet sold tremendously.

You're also assuming that the PS3 will have a launch time advantage over the 720. Please, educate us since you obviously have some hidden knowledge, when is the 720 releasing?

Sony will do fine, I am sure, but this will be the generation where they have the fewest factors in their favour since the PS1. Do not expect Sony domination, or you will be dissapointed.

The original PlayStation dominated the competition, knocking Nintendo's N64 off their high-horse and sending SEGA into a desperate frenzy.

PlayStation 2 came out and dominated even more... becoming the best selling home console ever. It knocked SEGA out of the console manufacturing business, walked all over the GameCube, and crushed XBox so bad that MS lost a ton of money on their console.

PS3, while not as dominant as it's predecessors, has still sold 75+ Million units globally. It is basically tied with Xbox360 in sales despite coming out an entire year later (year and a half later in Europe) and being more expensive ($599 at Launch). IMO Sony did everything to screw up the PS3's launch and it hurt their reputation a lot, but they still somehow made a comeback and did what no one thought was possible. They tied 360 in sales (give or take.... whoever has the lead right now, its by an insignificant margin).

Now this gen, Wii U has Launched first and is doing pretty abysmal sales. The new Xbox is strongly rumoured to have weaker specs than the PS4. Sony has struck before MS and has generated a ton of buzz for the PS4. The Launch window looks pretty good with Drive Club, Killzone, Knack, Watch Dogs, ACIV:Black Flag, and more. Plus securing exclusive content for Bungie's Destiny was a solid move. 2014 will probably see Infamous:Second Son and Uncharted 4 come out.

The controller has been upgraded. PS4's online is up to par, if not better than XBL. PS4 is dev-friendly and will be easier to develop for.

And the way I look at it, if Sony could tie 360 with the PS3 despite all their screw ups.... then next gen should be an easy victory considering they're both coming out around the same time and Sony has promised the new console won't be $599 like PS3 was.

Well the Wii U sales are second to Wii, but better then when the PS3 & 369 where in their first few months.

If the PS4 & 720 sale better then the PS3 & 360, then it would really be right around on par with the Wii U sales for their own first few months sales.

But at the end, the 3DS will be first place in sales, because 3D always beats 2D in the 21st Century.

Even the 3D movies will be victorious, as you can see with such movies as OZ 3D & G.I. Joe 3D & Iron Man 3D & X-Men 3D & Pacific Rim 3D & Thor 3D & Jurassic Park 3D & Superman 3D (same writer as the writer/director of the 3 Batman Movies: Christopher Nolan) & many more great 3D Movies & 3D games to come this year (2013).
