Ok, first of all there isn't any game that sold 120k. There is a game that sold 90k though, it is some niche pervy type of game. System seller? AAA? NOPE.
The other notable release that week was Phantasy Star Online 2....a game that is available to download for free. The game sold 61k. This is probably the highest profile release for the Vita in months, but it's no Monster Hunter or Final Fantasy. I dont' know how high your expectations were for Vita, but mine were about 40k.

So maybe you are the one who has these high expectations of a handheld that has been selling horribly for the past year. A price cut won't magically save the system. It needs a steady stream of games.(Which it is getting btw). Japan may be THE region for portable gaming, but it is being dominated by the 3DS. Again, if you were expecting Vita to outsell the 3DS(which just had Dragon Quest VII released a few weeks ago) you have your expectations way too high. Price may have been a barrier for Vita, but it still needs high profile games.

Yes my expectations were low, but they're also realistic. Maybe that is because I've been disappointed every single week for the past year. The 3DS has Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Mario...etc. There is no way Vita can compete with that with a simple price cut. It will take a long time before the Vita's install base and game library is big enough for it to meet expectations from people like you. It will take years though, it wont' happen overnight. So yes, the fact that Vita got so close to 3DS sales this week is impressive in my eyes.

Youve already been told about the 120k, so thats out of the way. Anyway. The 90k alone puts it in the Top 10 Vita retail games in Japan. Its obviously a "big" game for them over there.

Pricecuts always bring a sales spike, followed by the legs after if games are releasing. If it gets games then the cut will be worth it, if not then this relatively small spike will be pointless. This cut/game combo isnt big. It isnt impressive. It got outsold by its main competitor by over 20% on the spike week. Your low expectations were strange. 40k? If it sold 40k on pricecut week with a Top 10 game, you may aswell have called it game over. 3DS Pricecut Week? It sold over 200,000 units with a game that sold less than the "niche, pervy" game. 3 Weeks later, with no new game, it dropped to 60k.

60k simply isnt impressive, its around the point of "okay".. 40k would have been laughable. Now tell me where that damage control was...

No, it's not a big game. That's the problem. Vita has no AAA games.

I find it funny how you keep using 3DS to compare Vita sales and decide if they're good or not. LOL. Not only is this a Nintendo handheld, but it is dominating the Japanese market. Expecting Vita to match, or worse, surpass the 3DS, is extremely unrealstic. The demand for the PSP was always lower than the DS. The demand for Vita will always be lower than the 3DS.

60k is impressive for a "dead" handheld with no major 3rd party Japanese support. No Monster Hunter, No Mario, No Pokemon, No Final Fantasy, No Resident Evil...etc..etc.(Basically all the major Japanese IP aren't on the Vita, but they are on the 3DS)

The Vita got a price drop in Japan, and still failed to pass the 3DS during its first week.

Usually there is a surge in sales following a price drop, and then either sales do well or decline rapidly. Which category will PSP Vita end up in?

What's a PSP Vita?

All i see is praise or doom for Vita here lol.

imo Vita did really good, I was expecting 45-50k FW, it should remain about 50-60k next week (Soul Sacrafice is there biggest game of the month) and then drop to 45k and then stay at around 35-40k wen april comes!

If they go below 15k a week thats wen Sony needs to wrry, but i dont see that happening unless there isn't software aka Wii U!

3DS shouldn't be compared to Vita (hardware vs hardware), 3DS is just dominating. Vita Should definitely pull 7mil this year though WW if that price cut comes to NoA

I'm sorry but the 3DS is umdertracked. Vita had a very nice boost, I don't understand why Sony didn't do a global price cut.

there are no big games releasing for it in the west. without big games to push the system a price cuts effect will be really short, for a week or two

Bad numbers all round, particularly from the newest 3 devices.

YOY:

PS3: Down 47% Awful

360: Down 43%. Awful

wii: Down 71%. Dead

3DS: Down 22%. Poor

PSV: Down 31%. Awful considering a big price cut in Japan.

Ok, don't take into account that PSV just launched last week (looking at last year)

Dude, don't even bother replying to posts like that lol.

It just irks me when people try to post "unbiased" stats and then add some shit at the end without any perspective.

He has perspective. He's just ignoring it to get a rise out of people.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

We'll probably have to wait a bit for the cut, maybe even till Killzone is released. We can see that NA reacted to the Japanese cut, but Europe remaines rather steady, so maybe in a few weeks the sales in both regions will return to "normal" 10k a week in each. As long as WW sales are at 50k it's going to be good. 40k will be the least that I would consider acceptable. It's a good thing that the next 2 months we have a lot of new games released in Japan on a regular weekly basis. This should help the spike to last some time and maybe get the Japanese more used to buying the console ;)

The best thing for Vita in the West right now would be localisation of all Japanese games, or at least the jRPGs.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

In the last 3, maybe 4(?) Years... The PSP outsold the DS on a regular basis in Japan.

60k would be impressive, if you really thought it was dead. I didnt.

Like it or not, the 3DS is the Vita's direct competitor. They will be compared. Thats that. If you dont like it, tough shit. Thats just the way it is.
