Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Diddy Kong Racing Successor

Sounds great, but it will be a little weird without Diddykong in a successor to Diddy Kong racing.

I think it's a fine idea. I would definitely purchase a spiritual successor to Diddy Kong Racing, and would play it ad infinitum.

Rare would be wise to include an "adventure" mode in the sequel, as it was something that gave depth to the original game.

I would include this roster of racers, as long as Rare can still use all of them:

1. Banjo
2. Kazooie
3. Conker
4. Tiptup
5. Pipsy (my go-to racer for DKR)
6. Timber
7. Bumper
8. Drumstick
9. Mumbo
10. Bottles
11. Humba Wumba
12. Gruntilda
13. Klungo
14. T.T.
15. Cooper Chance
16. Rash

Basically it's just the roster of Banjo-Pilot (which was originally meant to be the sequel to DKR anyway) and Diddy Kong Racing, plus Cooper from Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Rash from Battletoads.

Call it Banjo Speedway or something, and make money :)

Microsoft Just doesen't have memorable characters for these type of games, Master Chief Driving a Kart? get out of here lol

It's a great idea, but Sonic & Allstar Racing does give a top quality kart racer to everyone. IMO Transformed is the best kart racer of the generation. An MS kart racer would be cool, and it might just be the Sega fan in me talking, but I'm not sure it's needed.

Killer Instinct was also the name of a fox television series, and their application was denied on the basis that it would cause confusion, but I think they have a pretty solid case to get that decision overturned. Seeing as their first game in the series came out before that series, and that television series is basically defunct. That said they probably would not even have to go that far.

In all likelihood Fox would probably abdicate any claim to the name for a mere pittance. So all that Microsoft would have to do was contact them directly, and they could sort it out in half an hour. That said renewing the copyright isn't any kind of proof that they intended to do anything with the name. Just that they wanted to keep the name safe. Companies often renew copyrights to keep others from squatting on them. It doesn't cost them much so why not.

I think your idea has some merit, but I think Rare would do better by actually hybridizing their kart racing property. With their BlastCorps property. While tossing in the customization that was available in Nuts and Bolts. Doing that would make the new property seem far less derivative. While at the same time adding a great deal of depth to the total package.

BlastCorps had a lot of cool vehicle concepts, and was focused around environmental modification. You could keep the standard race, and battle modes. While having the added benefit of a destruction derby mode. Along with the boss modes, and over world that was part of the kart racing property.

Thanks, I knew something happened with the name but i never really followed the story well.  And yeah you are right about they may have not been trying to make a new Killer Instinct but one can only hope :)

Yeah I actually like that idea a lot about the Banjo Nut's & Bolts.  it wasnt a bad game, it just wasnt what people wanted from banjo.  However I've never played BlastCorps but Ive heard great things about it

I doubt they could pull something as good as DKR off right now. That games was a true Materpiece in design and difficulty.

You're most likely right but I've always wanted a sequel to this game and knowing Nintendo has the rights to Diddy it makes it a very long shot for me :(

I'm sorry but Rare does not fully own KI. Any more than, as I've said before, Battletoads, or RC Pro Am, or Blast Corps, etc. The only games they fully own OUTRIGHT, are the games they published themselves on N64. Hence the reason the only games you've seen on Xbox from them, have been Perfect Dark, Conker, and Banjo.

Which is all irrelevant, as others have pointing out, because as I also mentioned earlier, almost all of the phenomenal talent, most especially the company founders the Stamper brothers, jumped ship soon after or some time after the sale of Rare happened. Pretty much ALL of the people behind their SNES and N64 greatness are no longer with the company. And that shined through in the new Perfect Dark and Banjo games. Rare simply is not a top developer anymore, not in terms of quality, or gamer anticipation.

I'm not trying to shit on your idea at all, in fact, for what it's worth, while I don't like Xbox as a console nor will I own one, I agree with you that it WOULD be a nifty idea for Rare to make a DKR type game sans the Nintendo owned characters. But will they, and would it be any good? These days, sadly, who knows?
