If Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Country Returns look realistic to you, please tell me where you live, cos I wanna move there! ;)

I'm gonna go outside the box and vote for Fatal Frame 4. It may only have officially released in Japan, but a fan translation patch allows it to be played in English, and it looks great, with very detailed character models and moody environments:

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is probably the most technically advanced, with its superb character rendering, motion captured animation, dynamic shadowing, snow particles, high res textures, and refractive ice. I just prefer the more dank, desolate look of Fatal Frame 4.

Endless Ocean 2 deserves a mention as well, the water effects and animals look very nice.

The Wii was definitely under-utilised visually, games like these show it was perfectly capable of producing pleasing looking games even without the help of stylization.

No need to go outside the box, so-to-speak, when FFII:Crimson Butterfly (a remake not a port) was released both in Japan and PAL

I don't think Fatal Frame 2 on Wii looks as good as Fatal Frame 4; the grain filter was annoying and textures weren't as sharp.

There are some games that I own and see people listing that I thought looked pretty bad.
Zelda SS looked pretty bad on anything except my daughter's tiny HDTV (19 inch, I think. It may be smaller.
Xenoblade looked horrendous to me. Still was fun, though.
The Last Story looked pretty decent but nothing special.
Endless Ocean looked pretty bad.
Other M looked really good at times and really bad (almost PS1 bad) at other times.

I can only comment on games I've actually played, though. I know first hand that screenshots lie. I have my PC connected to the same HDTV that I game on and the screenshots look better on the PC than they do actually running on the console.

Skyward Sword I agree with; I actually think that game looks pretty bad myself, though thankfully it's still a great game thanks to its awesome controls, combat, and dungeon design. Xenoblade I can also understand to a degree; though its vistas take my beath away, individual assets can be very low res.

But how did Endless Ocean look bad, apart from the stiff above-water sequences?

And Other M looking PS1 bad at times? That seems a bit of an extreme statement to me. Yeah, it has some PS2-ish textures here and there among its generally very slick assets, but PS1? I'm going to assume you mean the infamous icicles, but that's just one out-of-the-way background asset, you can find things that bad even in PS360 games if you look hard enough.

Etch-a-sketch

RE4 or Silent Hill I think did the best job.

Metorid: The other M

Conduit 2 is probably the best looking Wii game technically wise. It's the only Wii game looking similar to a X360 launch title, it's quite comparable to FEAR graphics-wise.

i like metroid other m it's graphics and design amuse me

Whenever the Wii's best lookers are discussed, it comes down to games like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Muramasa. These are beautiful games that deserve such accolades, but what about the few games that actually made an effort to attempt realism despite the system's limitations?

What game do you think did the best job of creating realistic graphics on the Wii?

Realism attracts adults. Cartoons attract children. Guess who Nintendo is after...and you'll find out why realism isnt their thing. Even Samus is an anime character. Its the reason why games like Super Smash Bro's have characters that can function in a single realm without clashing stylistically.

The best graphics that I've seen out of the Wii was probably Super Mario Galaxy. Instead of pushing realism Nintendo excells at vibrant, popping colors that catch the attention of the viewer quickly.

Endless Ocean 2.

This statement is debatable especially dependant on design styles but I do agree for the most part Nintendo aims more toward a family friendly audience with most of their IPs.

That being said, when I hear realistic graphics, I believe graphics that edge as close as possible to realistic proportions and locals.

-Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles

- The Conduit 2

-Deadspace: Extraction

- The Last Story

-Resident Evil 4 (As sad as that is but there is little doubt it is the best looking 3rd person action game on the system)

- Metriod Prime 3/Other M

- Monster Hunter Tri (particularly the monsters themselves)
