Forums - Sales Discussion - Stranger than fiction: Is PS3 about to win the console sales war?

I think we should boycott articles that continue to cite that goddamn 77m figure.

Also, not happening. 90m for PS3 is incredibly optimistic already. Over 100m and possibly around 105m (Wii's resting place, I'd wager) is, while technically possible, insanely unlikely.

13m in 3+ more years is incredibly optimistic?  If you say so.  Need I remind you it still hasn't gotten under $200 which PS2 reached in 03 I believe and 360 reached in 08 I think.

If Nintendo completly stops selling the Wii right now, it will take the PS3 200 weeks selling at 130k per week on average to make 99 million. So I dont see this happening. For one that means the PS4 will do horribly. (ie The market choosing the PS3 over the PS4 during that time.)

Don't forget that there's a thing called holiday season

Talk for yourself! D: The Holidays Seasons these past two years in Spain have been rather...poor. xD If Sony made good prices for the console during these times, it would probably sell well though.

Second for certain, unless a comet strikes the earth. 1st place in units sold may be unattainable given the current console sales climate, and relatively large gap in sales. We'll see. Unless a comet strikes the earth.

it actually might reach it. the console is around 77 million. it needs just another 23 million to cross the 100M mark. a big deciding factor if the ps3 will win the gen is how well the Wii sells. guess only time will tell

I love the fact that some people say that as if the previous console was made by a different company.

It used to make me laugh when people said that Blu-ray wouldn't be successful because DVD was still popular and selling well.

The PS5 Exists.

In 2020 people will question "Which console was the market leader in 7th gen consoles?" The answer will be PS3 and nobody will remember Wii or 360... that's how the history was made.

PS3 110-115 million coming at the end to be the best selling console this generation.

Fair enough; "incredibly optimistic" was an exaggeration. It's probably right around where it'll end up. Your point isn't very convincing, though. The PS3's last price cut was almost completely ineffectual and, contrary to popular belief, going under $200 isn't some magical price that'll yield earth-shattering sales.

Eh...perhaps I'm the only one with this idea here, but what about buying a brand new Ps4 bundled with a Ps3?! That would boost their sales and achieve first place in this generation.
