Well my question is simple. Rewatching the E3 announcement of the WiiU got me thinking how much excitement there was for the console back then, and I think that if Nintendo had held off until this E3 to announce their console with the exact same presentation, it would've allowed them more time to develop games, and it would've shown off their level of innovation as being far beyond Sony's announcement, and possible Microsoft's as well (Depending on whether they really blow us away or not)

So should they have waited???

Positives of Waiting:
-Could potentially increase the specs / lower the launch price of the console (More competitive)
-Extra year of development time for Nintendo to have a steady stream of games unlike the current dry spell
-Allow Nintendo to stop Sony and Microsoft hype from eclipsing them just a year later, as all 3 would've launched at the same time
-People would be more than ready for a new Nintendo console, as people were already waiting out the lack of games on the late Wii
-Competetion has no idea what Nintendo would have up its sleeve

Negatives of Waiting:
-Lose a year head start over the competetion
-Have to go head to head with Sony and Microsoft, and depending on their price points (people may have to choose between the consoles)
-Another year without a release on the Wii at all would've seen Nintendo's stock plummet down, and revenue would undoubtly be down
-Doubt about whether Nintendo can keep up with the demand for games

For the record, Nintendo could've made up for the low year of Wii sales with the worldwide launch of the Wii Mini at 99$, would've allowed for a smoother transition.

Honestly I think they should've released Wii U in fall 2010 or 2011 as Wii momentum dropped with no tablet controller but a better chipset than the 360 or PS3 and a Wii Motion + controller and a regular Classic Controller.

I still think they could've released the tablet pad with Nintendo Land, but as a separate accessory, like Wii Fit + Balance Board. There's just not enough games that really do anything with the screen to justify it basically hijacking the entire console concept and sucking so much of the cost budget away from the chipset and other features.

Nintendo could've comfortably made something far better than the 360/PS3 with a 2 year headstart over the PS4/720 that would've ensured a decent userbase at least.

They should have released in about 2 years ago, its already nearly outdated (talking about graphics) and its not even a year old. But judging by the WiiUs line up of games it seems that they should have held it off a year or two LOL who knows!?!?!

Honestly i think they should have waited a couple of months. The software has been very slow to release, with hardly any games releasing since christmas (in UK at least). Though i have had awesome titles like NSMBU, ZombiU and Sega all stars racing to keep me busy a few more big hit titles would have been nice. especially with scribblenauts getting a big delay in UK.

I think a launch in march would have been much more successful. Could have had Monster Hunter 3 U and Lego city undercover as launch titles, and that would have had a big impact.
That being said, i love my WiiU and see only good things ahead for the system.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

Like Soundwave wrote, Nintendo probably released its successor to Wii too late, not too early.

Although Michael Pachter is a grade A moron, his comment about Wii HD was probably right.

That being said, in the debate between 2012 and 2013, 2012 was the right choice. The year head-start is invaluable. The problem is that the launch line-up didn't provide many new experiences, and the high-profile "launch window" games were delayed. But, because of its head-start, Nintendo has the freedom to attend to these problems.

Honestly though LEGO City + Monster Hunter U wouldn't have helped the launch if Mario couldn't carry it.

The next real "system seller" for the Wii U may very well be Mario Kart U, which you're probably talking about November/December 2013.

It should have come out in fall 2011, and Nintendo should have had compelling software ready. Third parties are never going to be on the ball for the launch of any console, it is not fair to fans for Nintendo to hand that responsibility over to third parties. Perhaps if they launched with a Dragon Quest title, maybe that would have been an exception for Japan. Everywhere else requires a top Nintendo title.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I think that they had to release or otherwise they had to redesign the WIIU to current graphical specs. I think they will do ok this generation (maybe not like they did with WII in the first few years, but still ok to good) and if we look at the past, when Nintendo does a price cut or releases one of their big first party games the sales will grow!!

No, they should never have released the Wii U at all, not in anything like the current form.
