Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What developer should nintendo buy?

Realistically
Est: Platinum, Treasure, From Software
west: next-level games, shinen
Unrealistically
Crytek:
They would cover the fps lack and they would be perfect in for the role of engine makers and engine supporters, they could help improving tecnical support for all 3rd parties in the west. Also Crytek is the best example of top tecnical capabilities without a solid game direction.

Capcom, they're already half way there.

Sega and whatever is left of Atari.

good feel, next level games, shinen

SEGA. Mistwalker is not a developer per se, they coordinate work with the developer.

I would rather them hire new people and expand honestly. Retro should hire a bunch of new people so they can release games more often. Apparently, they did buy a few people but not enough IMO. They need to expand all of their teams. They are already beginning to do this and the merging of console & HH teams was smart.

Retro just moved into a much larger building. I think they need to expand their teams, but that ain't enough, they need new dev's too.

And lol at the bolded part ^^

Why wouldn't expanding be enough? Nintendo has really talented people, Nintendo just needs to focus on some new IP's and stop doing 20 Mario games for every system. Wii U looks to be more "core" focused and the GC had many attempts at new games. They had Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Chibi-Robo, Eternal Darkness, Geist, Cubivore, and Doshin The Giant but only Animal Crossing & Pikmin were successful enough to continue on. I expect a new IP or 2 to be announced at E3 actually.

You know what I meant when I said they bought people...HA!

They shouldn't buy any studio, they should get some high quality talent, and build another western studio like they did with Retro. Retro is IMO the most talented developer Nintendo has, they need to use that same strategy to build another studio ALA retro.

Oh and buy Mistwalker just to get a hold on JRPG market.

They should have bought CING. http://www.destructoid.com/2010-sucked-why-cing-will-be-unknowingly-missed-191379.phtml

Games like Hotel Dusk, Last Window and Another Code would be a great addition to the 3DS-portfolio.

The reason that I don't think that it will be enough is that nintendo is going to continue to make mario games, that's just the way it is. The ead groups are going to be doing what they have been doing, making games in old franchises and a few new. The new MOAR dev's. Also: Image. If they could say that they bought bethesda they would get a lot more attention than if they said that they expanded ead.

If recent history is any indicator buying big doesn't necessarily result in a good return on investment. Ideally they as in Nintendo should be looking for smaller developers that could fully pay for themselves in as little as two to three years. What Nintendo needs most of all are small developers that have demonstrated a vision that is not necessarily in line with what Nintendo traditionally offers to its audience. I would suggest the following.

Gearbox, Obsidian, Piranha Bytes, Splash Damage, and Telltale Games.

I would recommend these acquisitions to any Manufacturer. They have strong direction, future profit potential, and have a strong reputation with existing player bases. Nintendo could both make good money by acquiring one of these developers, and it would help to differentiate their current offerings.
