Forums - PC Discussion - Need a new laptop

Edit: I live in the UK.

I'm looking for a <£700 laptop that will play SC2 and LoL smoothly, so decent graphics but nothing high-end. I'm buying because my current laptop has screen and touchpad problems and can no longer play SC2 since a recent patch.

I normally help with these PC threads but I haven't been keeping up in this area and it's the UK so impossible to find reviews or make a decent price comparison.

I guess my options are an AMD Fusion thing or some midrange discrete graphics + Intel. I'll also be stuck with Windows 8 I suppose, would prefer 7.

I'd help but, I'm don't have shopping experience with UK stuff.

Is there a NewEgg/Walmart/BestBuy/Amazon equivalent in the UK? That's where I'd price hut in US.

What is the equivalent of 700 pounds to dollars? If you can afford to spend the extra money on a Mac then go for a Mac. I've been a Mac user since 2009 and I love it.

@andres

Well, yes, I can do price ranges on dell.co.uk or hp.co.uk. I was wondering if people had specific laptops in mind, I don't expect people to actually research for me.

While that laptop with the GT630M is OK, it seems mismatched with the 8GB RAM, BD drive and i5.

@spurge

I wish we had Walmarts here.

@Dmick90

£700 is nominally $1100, but the cheapest Mac with discrete graphics is £1250 = $1900. If it wasn't that I'd do it as well since I've had a great experience with paying more for an iPhone and having it Just Work (tm).

Starcraft II isn't a very graphics heavy game as far as I know. I run Diablo III on max settings on my Mac with a core i3, 8GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB, and it's very smooth. You guys don't have any BestBuys, Staples, or Walmarts in the UK? I would check around ebay or Amazon, you might be able to find a nice refurbished Macbook or Dell with decent specs for cheap.

Look for one with an A10. It should suit your needs, I know HP has laptops with A10, and I believe Asus does as well. Not too sure on other manufacturers. Also, I think they go for around 600USD.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Laptops with A10-5800k are the best ones with APU but the cheaper A10 versiom is good too.

Now with discretd GPU you way more options... I like Apple MacBook or Sony Vaio but these are way more expensive than HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, etc.

what screen size are you looking for?
