Other then what I mentioned above the most talked about story in my town was a city cop being fired for showing up to the station drunk.

I just moved into a city of almost 700k...
It's the outskirts of Toronto, not really bad I guess
Sorry to hear all that.
My old school had a fight when I was in grade 10, 1 year back
Some kid broke his arm, nose, and dislocated his shoudler
thats the worst i can recall...
Hang in ther!

HOW MANY DIED TODAY?

Just one. She and 5 friends snuck out of their homes, got some alcohol, and went to the school. The used some milk crates to climb onto an AC unit, which they then used to get on the roof. The six sort of wandered their separate ways. Two chose to sit on a skylight, which broke beneath them. They fell nearly 4 stories. As I hear it, he fell on her. She died, he's in serious (formerly critical) condition, with a broken neck and pelvis. Thankfully he's not got any paralysis or brain damage.

Just some random and accidental deaths, imo, It happens no matter where you live. The fact is, we all die at some point.
I bet there is a teacher in Iraq somewhere wondering the same thing x1000. Yet his situation is one that truly should and can be stopped.

When I was in 10th grade, a girl in my health class was in a really bad accident and died a week later. Another girl in my grade died too, but I never found out how. Oh yeah, there was also a boy that was gay and always depressed and kept getting harassed for it. He tried to commit suicide at home but didn't succeed. The school's response was to kick him out.

That's pretty much the worst that's happened that I can remember

I'll get right on that.

(And not trying to sound like a douche, well not a complete douche at least, but not sure what other comment I can make)
Way to callously react to one guy lamenting death. I'm guessing you ignored the concept of rhetorical questions just to have a chance to edge in your "witty" comment. And to the OP, yeah, stuff like that gets you down. But there's not always too much you can do.

I knew full well the futility of what I typed when I typed it, and his remark simply underscores it.

And I do understand the truth of statistical clustering, that seemingly random events will, because they are random, occur more frequently at one place or one time, at least during a relatively short period. This drives out brains batty, as we tend to see patterns in small samples, which often leads to the creation of superstition - ie the town's cursed. However, simply acknowleging that the universe isn't out to get us is not quite comforting enough.

Yeah, we just covered superstition and its psychological links/origins in my psych class, it's really fascinating stuff.
