Sony: Project Morpheus “not coming this year”

Well, this is a bit of a bummer. Sony’s Adam Boyes has confirmed that the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset will not be coming this year. He pointed out that Project Morpheus is still not “a real product”, but a prototype.

Boyes said in a recent interview that Project Morpheus is still in the prototype stage, and that they are still gathering feedback from developers on the hardware.

He also confirmed that indie game developers will have access tot he hardware, but so far it’s been constrained by supply. Oculus Rift, the main competitor to Sony’s VR headset, has already shipped well over 10,000 units to developers around the world.

Sony revealed Project Morpheus at GDC this year and showcased it with a bunch of smaller games, some of which were developed with cooperation from NASA.

So far, only one Project Morpheus game has been confirmed: EVE Valkyrie, a space shooter. However, making games for the new VR headset should be easier, as the new Unreal Engine 4 for the PS4 supports the VR technology.

Sony’s biggest competitor on the market, Oculus Rift, was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion. Sony’sShuhei Yoshida went on record saying that they “love it”, and that it validated the future for VR technology.

Wow. Really? They've been working on it for that long already? Then I wouldn't be surprised to get at least a teaser of their actual game and not a tech demo.

Just the source should tell you all you need to know.

Well you know Quantic Dream knows how to push visuals. Whatever they're working on will, at the very least, be gorgeous to look at.

Battlefield 4 sells 7+ million, only 2% are still playing

The active player base is dwindling, likely a result of all the issues with the game.

According to player tracking from various platforms, there are a total of 7+ millionBattlefield 4 players out there who have played a multiplayer match at some point since launch. Of those 7+ million, only 150,000 have played in the last 24 hours. The number is slightly higher if we go back 48 hours.

An active player base of 150,000 players represents just 2% of all players in the last 24 hours, or 3% in the last 48 hours. Which is quite a disappointment, to say the least. Of course, depending on how you look at the numbers, the active player base could be higher, as some might only be playing once a week or so. Nevertheless, this few active players at any given time is a concern.

Despite releasing several expansion packs, the ongoing problems with the game — netcode, bugs, glitches — have resulted in lots of players giving up on battlefield 4, just six months into the lifetime of the game.

EA has claimed that Battlefield 4′s problems did not hurt the franchise, but the numbers prove otherwise. We’re certain that many of those players who left the game won’t be quick to buy the next game in the series.

Total sales of Battlefield 4 are likely higher than 7 million, since some players only played singleplayer and never bothered to try the multiplayer.

Infinity Runner Coming To Vita

The sci-fi action runner Infinity Runner has been announced to be coming to the Vita, as well as the PS3 and PS4. Wales Interactive announced the news via their website yesterday stating "The title marks the company's step up to support all the next generation gaming consoles."

Little is known about the game currently. We assume the game will more than likely be cross-buy between all platforms. However it is much too early to determine that. Keep it tuned to VitaBoys for any further news that progresses.

I feel like this was already known.  I'm excited to see what they finally end up releasing.

Yeah. I think it's pretty crazy that anyone thinks that thing is coming this year. They made it pretty clear it was in the prototype stage, needed a lot of work, and that Sony was still in the process of getting developers on board.

Ok, what? Let that sink in for a moment, according to this and vgchartz stats over 40% of console owners of Battlefield 4 have never played a match online, that is absolutely crazy to me.

I never played Battlefield 3 online, but I did beat the offline campaign.

EDIT: Not true. I played Battlefield 3 much later in a friend's house. But back then, I only beat the campaign and just leave at it.

Ok, I knew that there were a couple people that didn't play the game online, but over 40% of the console userbase? For a game like Battlefield 4, that is known to have a terrible campaign and a great multiplayer? A game that was together with Cod used by people (myself included) as a reason why Titanfall leaving out the single player campaign wasn't a bad thing? I'm really having difficulties wrapping my head around this. Vgchartz could never be that off with their tracking could they?
