Well met, this is definitely a bet I would consider taking.
I think GoW will win out though.

I could see this happening. Zelda will pass up 3 Million this year and (going off what God of War III did) God of War Ascension will only get a little upwards of 2.5 Million. (Possibly 3 Million, but not ahead of Zelda on that regard.)

At first I thought this prediction was crazy.

Well the God of War series is notoriously undertracked by Vgchartz so you have to take that into consideration.

God of War III sold about 3 4 million in its first year and must be around 6 million by now (including the Saga collection + Omega Edition which isn't tracked by Vgchartz and the Trilogy edition). The Zelda series isn't that big anymore, in almost 27 years only 3 Zelda games have managed to outsell the best selling GoW game which had terribly marketing and almost non-existent bundling (thanks mainly to the PS3 shortage at the time) and it's only an 8 year old and growing franchise. It's not even by that much and the last 4 Zelda releases have performed significantly less than GoW3, nowadays God of War is probably bigger than Zelda.

God of War: Ascension is pretty much guaranteed to pass 5 million lifetime, its legs will be stronger than GoW3 but will be cut short due to the next generation consoles so it will probably reach 5.75-6.25m LT, a little less than GoW3 which will stop at around 6.50m. It will EASILY outsell Zelda: OoT 3DS and sell a lot more copies quicker at higher prices meaning it'll make tons more money for it's company.

Even if Z:OoT 3DS magically managed to surpass GoW:A lifetime it'll only be because it's on on a current gen handheld device vs an outdated system and by the time that happens it'll be near enough given away for free so that's not impressive.

Yeah um i definitely would like that to happen but come on i think you are dreaming a little bit there dude lol! I mean Gow3 is probably barely above 5.30m so when do you expect it to hit 6.50m lol!? in 15 years??? 

But anyway back on topic,well of course GoW Ascension will sell better! is this a joke? i'm positively sure that Ascension will reach 4.5m - 5m eventually, it's going to have good legs because of the multiplayer, but it will have a weaker start then GoW 3 and probably not sell as good.

I wouldn't rely on the name too much. People is burn out of this franchise, and it should have waited until PS4. (Same with Gears of War Judgment, actually.). I predict 2'5 million units sold, perhaps 3 millions. Wanna bet something? :3
