Forums - Nintendo Discussion - EGM mocks Endless Ocean - instead of reviewing it

I thought he did a good job reviewing it as he pretty much comes out and tells what it's all about.

Good job? All he has done is complained about the gameplay (which he is entited to do). He makes no comments on Controls/Graphics/Sound/Presentation/etc...

Ok so he left off the graphics but pretty much covered the gameplay. It continues to be said around here that wii is all about gameplay. It was a good enough review that it got most people attention here. No other review so far of this game has got as much attention.

It seems to me that a lot here pretty much agrees he covered the whole idea even though they disagree with the reviewers conclusion. I often find critics very helpful as if I don't mind the flaws the critic mentions then normally it's a safe buy.

That's the thread, twesterm. Soriku said that the group was 'bleh' lol

I'm going to keep playing Endless Ocean, though. Not bored of it one bit. I still play Pokemon D/P a lot (355 hours and only 4 badges lmao; that's on Diamond, though, but I hacked 493 Pokemon for the National Dex just for the heck of it), and I'm not bored of it either.

EDIT: Oh, and I made a FFXI character after Hayley too. I plan on using her as a static character, and her main jobs will be Bard and Dancer once I find the time.

Honestly, I generally don't expect people to like them. I only like them and Hayley because I have the dumbest most random taste in music ever. My playlist consists of them, Hayley, classical, opera, metal, musicals, classic rock, pop, 80's, rap, country, and just about everything else along with it.

And curse you for mentioning FFXI, it took so much to quit that game. I finally got myself to quit after camping Shikigami Weapon and Rose Garden for days.

It does seem pretty lame to me...looks nice and it might be interesting to explore...but poking random fish? No real danger from dangerous fish? Eh. Not realistic enough then.

But I'm not gonna force my opinion on others...it deserves fair reviews.

Realism is a major concern for you? And you play stuff like TF2/Half Life etc? :p

"Game," according to the dictionary(s) I've read: an interactive amusement or pastime.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game

Objectives, danger, and endings are not necessary attributes to be defined as a "game." In essence, people who think games do require endings/danger are just making a definition of the word up to suit themselves.

The argument is so absurd, so poor, that really the only other time I've seen it used is with racism. When the US was young, we enslaved and disenfranchised black people. How could we do this, when our Declaration of Independance specifically gave everyone inalienable rights? When every human was, by definition, free to pursue life, happiness, and the pursuit of property?

Simple -- just say that black people are non-people (this was seriously the solution -- every black person was counted as 2/3 of a person when a slave master voted in electoral happenings).

I know, I know, it seems extreme, but it's the only other example similar to this I can even think of -- if you don't like reality, just redefine all the words to your liking until reality fits your perception.

First, it's 3/5 of a person (hence the 3/5 clause). Second, the real way they did it was to say that African Americans could not be citizens of the United States (although they could be of the states) in the Dred Scott decision. Your point is still applicable, though. They're still redefining what a citizen is.

I would like to clear up that, it's not that I am upset they didn't like the game. It is a semi-major release and I think their readers deserve to know which features and game play mechanisms are included and whether or not they felt good and why. If you want to take off points for not having objectives handed to you, fine. But atleast describe the game accurately. and I don't appreciate inaccuracy: You don’t even have to worry about your air supply.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

lol ... this review ... I mean impression is pretty funny IMO . Please dont take everithing personal . If they would write similar reviews to more Nintendo games I would agree that they are biased , but its only one game ....

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

This could simply be the same as was the case with Ninjabread Man; it may not be a very good game.
I'm sure reading a mock article about it yields just as much reading a horrible review. Two means towards the same end imo.

For comparison:

Clearly not the problem. They just don't want to acknowledge this type of game. As another side note, this is still my favorite game this year, and is likely to remain in my top 5 (at least) by the end of it. It's really wonderful.

But as a gamer, if I was a EGM reader I would want to know how the controls were. What things can I do in the game etc. How does it look compared to screens. Etc.

I get all my reviews online, and this is one of the reasons why. Magazines are making them selves less and less relevant.

I have the 'game' if you can call it that. There's nothing wrong with it, except it sure doesn't fit the current perception of what video games should be. It does however fit Nintendo's: Which is interactive entertainment and that's what this is.

Here's why I have it, if I'm home alone, eating and there's nothing on TV, I can slip this baby in and play one handed while I eat or relax with a drink of tea. It's perfect for that! There aren't any other 'games' out there where I could do that. Also, while I haven't tried it, I suspect that if I can't sleep, playing this for a while will provide adequate distraction from whatever thoughts might be keeping me up yet be soothing enough to lull me to sleep.

Now some of you are probably reading that and going WTF?! Which is fine since this sure won't appeal to everyone, but then neither does Manhunt which is the other end of the spectrum from this.

As for the quality of the game itself, I am truly impressed with how gorgeous the marine life is rendered, they really put all their attention into the fine details of how the fish look and move and it seems very convincing. Except fish don't run from you or try to eat you, but this isn't meant to be challenging, it's suppose to be relaxing.
Beyond that, it's quite good but not great, it is a budget title and a game like this would have to be because it's never going to be a huge seller.

For $30 I'm quite happy with it. If people want I'll write a review once I've had more time to play it.

And if anyone wants a driving partner msg me.
