You know, i have seriously entertained the idea that the relaunch of the WiiU might come with an adjusted name.

With the current logo, the is blue so it naturally sticks out. But what if they dropped the part altogether.

I'm sure many others had this same idea :P

But do you think it would be wise idea and why?

U...
Play the new U from Nintendo...
For U'r pleasure...
U-Love...

How about this simple Logo -> U:)

Update:

I'm not suggesting that a fast switch would be done, but a gradual phasing out of the Wii part by marketing in the first place.

Meaning that commercials and packaging would center around showing the U front and center. So people might related to it as the U, even though the official boxname at that time would still be the Wii U.

When perception has shifted to the U as the common name, then Nintendo could quitely change the packaging or naming...
... and no one would really notice. Or care.

Update 2:

Chris_Wing suggested Nintendo U as the new full name. Great idea.

Think about it: a commercial like this:

NIntendo U

*then u en nintendo cross*

U... Nintendo

*Then Nintendo disappears*

U:)

*then the smile blinks or something*

I liking Nintendo U already.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Maybe they should do a re-launch.. Remove the controller in exchange for a Classic Controller Pro and reduce price of white model to 249.99 and call it WiiHD!

They need to rename it to something that would NOT confuse people into thinking it's just another Wii....

I don't think that this would be necessery.
Its crucial for Nintendo to SHOW people the difference to the original Wii. I do see ads here and there but thats just isn't enough..

I think they need a full first party title and use THAT in massive advertisments to really show the wii u is their new console.

Other than that they kept the Wii part for providing recognition. Now that turned out rather too well ;)

I think they should, since that would be Nintendo's 9th generation console and give them a 6 year headstart on Sony and Microsoft.

Same thing with the PSVita, got confused with a new model of the PSP after launch. Is the average consumer really THIS stupid?

Average consumers are that stupid sadly.

Even some sites that sell games

DS/3DS grouped STILL.

They want to milk the Wii good will and Wii-series games. They want the Wii name in there. Wii2 might have been a better choice, but would sound inferior to a PS "4". Maybe keep the name but really push that U in marketing.

No. I think such a move would be disastrous in consumer confusion. I agree the Wii U is a poor name and most people think it is a Wii add on, so rather than re name Nintendo really needs to make a big marketing push to explain it is a whole new system.

The time to adjust the name would have been at E3 last year, I can not think of a single console that re named itself after launching.

Whats wrong with Wii 2(too), much better than WiiU(you)
