"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Is it just me, or does that game not look that impressive? (lair)

No, you're not alone, but don't tell that to the PS3 fans.  It looks like it should be a PC RTS or something.  Speaking of which, Supreme Commander pretty much rocks.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

What's funny about this whole argument about Cell is that these types of games with tons of items on screen and high use of cpu power has been around for awhile on pc's already. What is the max # of person's in a game on any online game for xbox or 360 or ps3? 32? The last two Battlefield games allowed 64. Also, what about civilazation 4 or any RTS game where you could have like 10 people on one linked game with very large armies for each person all menuvering at the same time in completely different scenarios? There is nothing that will come out for the PS3 that cannot be done on the 360 is as good of a fashion. The only reason any game is going to look better on one or the other has nothing to do with their internal hardware, but that, that game was specifically built for/on a particular system.

Who here has played Rise of Nations 2 with 10 friends on their 1.7MGhz computers? I have. I hosted even.

This is the breakdown we're likely to see from most developers. Anybody hoping for the AAA third party titles on Wii is going to be hoping for a long time. Nintendo will get games that are cheap to make (last gen ports, spinoffs, and, for lack of a better term, kiddy games). Anything online is likely to favor 360 because Microsoft's got a 5 year headstart. PS3 and 360 will be the choices for those looking for power, and the biggest games will be on one or both of those systems. EA is pretty similar to the remainder of the American developers. They are platform agnostic, but they do have their preferences as to what gets what. Similarly, Take Two sees the biggest opportunity in Wii for Fantastic 4 and last gen ports, while the big games like GTA will be on 360 and PS3. THQ, meanwhile, will heavily utilize Wii to leverage its Nickelodeon licenses.

I agree, that 360 propably gets the most online-oriented games and Wii gets games that are cheap to make (compared to its rivals), but this means games that are as large as games for 360/PS3. Or a game with same budget with 360/PS3, with the difference, that they are larger. Welk, but just like EA said it. If others think the same way, it doesn't look too good for the PS3, since they are not getting many different types of games. Definition "something like Harry Potter" isn't limited to a single category, if we are looking at the contex.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

here's the proof that P3 can't reach PS2 levels. Wii will get the casual gamer PS2 had... the kind of person that would buy a cheap console for Harry Potter, MySims or DDR. You can't justify paying $660 for this kind of game.

Actually no it isn't, but it is selling well so their is nothing to blame Ubisoft for.

@Hus

For the third time if you think Ubisoft is idiots making money from Wii can you please explain why!

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

xbox 360 and PC could easily do Lair. Wii would not be able to have the scale involved but it's not something special about the Cell processor. Millions of objects means what exactly?

1) Lots of polygons, which are handled by the GPU rather than the Cell (despite Sony's original intentions). I suppose you could offload them onto the Cell partly but I imagine it would be a real pain.
2) Millions of AI scripts? Cell SPU's are vector units, completely useless for AI.

yeah that's about it. I fail to see how Cell would improve this situation at all over the X360 (which has a superior graphics card to the PS3, and 3 POWER6 cores meaning much better general purpose programming.

Basically, games with realistic physics will be the area which the Cell will shine. We could see games with amazing realistic physics, for instance, if something blows up, it could break up realisticly and have the pieces fly and hit things realisticly. Whether developers will use this or not is another story. I don't see this kind of stuff in Lair, though.

So basically, power of cell depends on what you use it for

MySims isn't a AAA title? It may target a different audiance but the sims series is pretty strong.

I don't necessarily know if that's correct... I think the Wii could do something like Lair but just scaled back a fair bit... look at rogue squadron and tell me that doesn't look amazing on GAMECUBE, that game made me go WOW crazy the GC can do THAT?

Of course Lair how it is now in HD the Wii COULD NOT DO, but scale the def back and lower the detail in the models a bit, lower a few other effects and the water shaders etc I think Wii could do something similar.  I just don't find Lair THAT technically impressive, it's technically impressive using some obscure techniques (especially the water shader) but because i've seen the water shader in crysis anything shorter seems last gen to me honestly.
