Forums - Gaming Discussion - Official Retro Games Thread (was: Atarians and other retro gamers assemble!)

Hey guys, let's grow Team Retro to get Brett some notice here, so we can get a retro game spot on here, and help set up some retro game tournaments and so on. I would like to get things large enough to be able to also get tournaments set up with scoreground.com . And I want it even larger so I get weekly leaderboards for retro stuff. My end game would be to have a PGA for Pacman. YES, we WILL have it so people can make a living playing Space Invaders and Pacman and Super Mario Bros!

I am thinking I might as well drop this video I wanted to post, in here:

Lol, well good luck with that. Most retro gamers just do it for fun. The only old school game I play semi-seriously is Donkey Kong arcade and I can't only just barely break 90,000.

Atari 800 and Atari ST here.

Some of my childhood favorites: Wizard of Wor, Ali Baba, Archon, Arkanoid.

Nice. I have an Atari 800 XL, but I never had a an ST. I've read it was an amazing machine. I miss the days when computers brands actualy meant different hardware and software like consoles.

BTW: What's that Falcom game in your sig? I'm a fan of the Ys series, but I don't know all Falcom games.

My first console was an Atari 2600, and I "grew up" with the NES. I won new consoles, but I would absolutely consider myself an "Old School Gamer". Even on the newer consoles, my fav. titles tend to be the ones that if not blatantly retro styled, at least with "retro" sensibilities, IE games that actually seem like VIDEO GAMES, not playable films.

Well, idea is to find top generalists and promote them.  With my CADERS group on Facebook, I have a number of them actually.  Not seeking to promote one game but retro in general.

Retro gaming is awesome. I've never sold any of my games and don't plan to.

I'm the same way. It's getting harder and hard to organise and store, not to mention maintain, so much stuff. One of these days I need to take a full inventory and make record of it all for insurance purposes.

Yeah me too. My old room at home is starting to look like the final scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Wizard of War was awesome in 8bit.  I am assuming you went Arkanoid on the ST, as I don't recall it really being on the 8bit computers.

It's funny, my fondest childhood memory of the ST is that the cursor turns into a bee when it's "busy" loading, and I'd be sitting there trying to sting things with it until the game loaded. Haha.

As for Falcom, they have 2 big series. One is Ys which is fairly well known outside Japan. The other is their RPG series Legend of Heroes (also known as Dragon Slayer for the first 2 games) which is unfortunately not very popular out West, although I do believe there are English releases all the way up to the first chapter of #6. My sig is what will be the new entry in Legend of Heroes this year.
