Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can you imagine how exciting next gen would be if the Wii U wasn't out yet?

Tagged games:

Most people agree Nintendo jumped the gun on the Wii U launch. They threw it out of the gate but didn't have exactly a lot of games to release (although of course they are coming out later this year and I agree it will be quality stuff). Not surprisingly the sales are plummeting as Sony and MS ready their next gen machines for the holidays 2013. Wii U should be fine with new games, lower entry price etc.

But what if Nintendo waited? If they actually shot for a release window closer to Sony and MS? With a properly equipped hardware for the 8th gen?

I guess it would be pretty exciting to watch.

Do you think Nintendo should have waited or releasing first and getting a headstart was a good idea?

I could care less about the Wii U being more powerful, the only thing Nintendo failed on was the fact that they did rush the Wii U so it's had no SW support. Other than that, it seems okay.

It would be nice, as probably Wii would be still supported and Nintendo would be on a better financial situation right now. Don't care about Wii U's power, but dropping Wii support in 2011 really meant a lot to me when thinking of buying Nintendo home consoles.

Well people have been saying for the past 3 years "Nintendo needs to release a new console asap, the Wii is so outdated". So please dont start with the "Nintendo jumped the gun, they should have waited"

Nintendo doesnt care what the others are doing, they are innovative and will always deliver with great software which cannot be found anywhere else, and this will be the driving force for WiiU sales in the future.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

I agree about power. In fact, despite as a gamer I get excited on high specs, I get kind of worried about Sony pushing it so much, for example. Perhaps a cheaper console would make them more successful but they are always set on power. I support Sony but really I think they go overboard on power (ie. Vita, PS3). Next generation Wii U will be cheapest, Xbox likely to be best balanced, and PS4 most expensive again. I don't like this at all.

What I mean by power is at least closer to parity. Nintendo's first party + full third party support + a mainstream/'normal'/'not gimmicky' console (like the PS4's super straightforward hardware, but not as powerful) would be unstoppable. Why Nintendo try to go this? I really don't get it. They were successful going this route with the Super NES so I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be again.

The WiiU either came out too early or too late. It should've released 2 years ago when tablet gaming was a new phenomenon, or holiday 2013 with better specs.

Well, Nintendo did an okay job with figuring out how the Wii U's graphics should work out, in my opinion. The Wii U (using X as an example) can pump out some great looking games, still. The graphics for it are perfectly fine. (Despite what some people would say.)

I wish they would have waited.

I wouldn't tell Nintendo what they "should" have done, but it looks to me like launching the Wii U this March may have been more prudent. I understand that they wanted that first Holiday period all to themselves, but the console simply wasn't ready in November. It still isn't ready.

God Nintendo, you ruin everything!
