Did the game hurt anything, and if so what?

It didn't really hurt anything 19 37.25%

The vita 7 13.73%

COD franchise 6 11.76%

My brain, my eyes and the rest too 6 11.76%

COD is like a fish to me,... 13 25.49%

Total:51

So, we were talking about review scores, and how much they affects sales. COD on vita ws one of the main ones we talked about. Acording to most, the games suck, but the game was heavily advertised (and it was cod), so it sold rather well, and not only that, it sold systems.

But did the game hurt the vita. Ofcource, a really good cod game on the vita would be much better, but would it be better for the vita if the game never came out? And did the game hurt the franchise as a whole?

Ok this is something I've been meaning to bring up for the longest time.

Yes, Yes, without a doubt, god dang it yes.
Pretty much KILLED all chances of the Vita in the west (For now. We might see a good GTA to drive some sales)

The franchise whole? No.
The problem is that people are going to be like, "Oh that 1 handheld CoD game sucked ass. CoD only good on consoles hurr derr."

If the CoD was actually fantastic, then Vita would've held a firm placement for the destination of quality handheld shooters.

But since Resistance and CoD were bad......Killzone Mercenaries will have to wipe that image, but the damage is already done and Killzone ain't no CoD game.

My point is, CoD was supposed to be that 1 game to give the system the "mainstream exposure" it needs. Like how everyone can always expect a good Pokemon.

Overall the strategy of focusing on the Western Market was risky at best, considering that Japan is the one eating up handhelds these days, and not many western devs develop games for handhelds.

But since CoD:Vita was terrible? Who's gonna develop for the system in the west expect for Sony 1st party? The Japanese games alone could carry the 3DS over in the west because of the universal mainstream appeal of Mario and Pokemon.

Monster Hunter had JP appeal at best and couldn't carry the system in the west, and Sony knew that, tried to release good western games to the Vita in order to counter that.

However? In the process they lost Monster Hunter and CoD wasn't the system seller they were hoping for.

Overall, it was a good strategy, HORRiBLE execution. Everything that could've gone wrong did.

You pretty much summed up all my thoughts

Could you fix up the title a little, the capitalization could attract more people to take some time.

Think it showed Western gamers that Vita could never pull off a quality console game, given how awful COD Vita is.

The more COD Vita sells, the more people will believe that.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I'm not sure if people have thought of that, at least rom the pool.

Last NPD CoD bundles accounted for 40% of Vita sales, despite reviews. It definitely helped. I wouldn'tbe surprised if Vita was <30k/month without it.

But we are kinda speaking the long run here.

Do you think that the innitial sales are worth more than this in the long run?

This seems hard to quantify to me. Perhaps if attach rates for Vita's are abysmal it could show people bought one, were disappointed in initial offerings and soured them on the whole library?

Vita was struggling before and still is now, so hard for me to see causation from any one title like you can with a Pokemon or Monster Hunter.

Short answer: no, not at all.
Long answer:

Like it or not it even helped the Vita. With most bundles the game was pretty much an added bonus, and I doubt that many core gamers who wanted a Vita bought it for CoD:BO:D. Who got it with the bundle or who bought it without reading the reviews (meaning the small percentage of casual gamers) got a decent enough multiplayer shooter, and a Vita, that has tons of free and exciting stuff on the online store, and Im certain that most buyers will give a second CoD on the Vita another chance if it will happen (and judging by the OK sales it might actually happen).

CoD was never the Vita's savior in the west.A decent stream of quality games and a good pricepoint is. Whoever thinks that a shooter franchise will make or break a handheld belongs in the loonie house. I would argue that even tough it had lower sales AC3:L pushed more Vitas than CoD.

One terrible game will not seal a systems fate nor will it bring it to glory, and its actually a shame that many posters, who are on this site for years now, still haven't learned this.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Let's give the Vita more time. CoD could have given the Vita more life, but it certainly isn't going to kill it quite yet

If Sony can get GTA, GT, a good CoD and some other decent games on it, then it can probably survive for a while, but Sony might have to splash some cash to get more games on the system in the short term
