No im not downplaying anything.  Whether it is 4gb or 8gb it is a massive jump over 256MB.  256MB isn't even enough to allow cross game chat.  But people are not realizing what shared memory means either as you can see in this thread alone.  It isnt all towards dedicated memory.

And to Turkish above you.  2GB reserved for the OS.

so whats this

what PR move? the machine has 8Gbs and that is it... the OS will take its part and the rest is to run PS4 software (GAMES), the games will use the memory between CPU and GPU, but what size will have on both ends its irrelevant because its ALL for "dzee GAMEz"...

haha yes.   Ok let me explain it this way.  You can make something sound much better than what it is by playing around with umbers.  I'll use an example.

Let's say you are reading a bottle oon a soda and it says 1 out of every 10 people will win an award.  That sounds goo right?  Now how does 10 out of 100 sounds?  how abound 100 out of 1000?  or 1000 out of 10,000.  Now 10,000 out of 100,000.  That number is sounds worst with higher numbers than lower numbers.

In this case it does in fact have 8gb but not all of those gb's are for dedicated memory which is what people are not realizing.    If they said that the OS has 2Gb and the GPU has 2GB and the RAM has 4GB it suddenly sounds worst right?  but instead they lumped it together (Which is true still) and suddenly that number appears higher than what it actually is for games.

THis comes down to a difference of gamers and developers.  Gamers who dont realize this gets excited due to the high number.  Developers also get excited but not for the same reason, they can play around with those numbers and they actually know what it means, where as you the gamer really doesnt.

This is why i said it was a beautiful PR move and it obviously was or else it wouldnt be all over forumes right now ;)

the way i see it... the thing was a media conference dedicated to unveil details about the PS4. the target was public in general, those kind of details are unnecessary because, like you say, the general public don't know much about hardware. So, there is no PR move, despite your belief, that is the simple way to put it, so unacknowledged people can understand. What is dedicated to games ,bla bla bla tech stuff, is a matter for a developers conference...
The OS footprint is unconfirmed so, saying its going to be 2Gb has the same value as i saying it will be 768Mb; the OS is still in development, so a good guess is, even Sony can only guess the final size of the OS footprint.

BTW, the beauty of it all was the surprise of 8 vs the 4 rumored, not some stunt to fool people like you imply.

BTW2 @OP
the meltdowns would be big, but your amusement about it would be in the same ball park of the claims SOME sony fans did after 02/20 -> proof there is good and bad people in all sides of this "battle"...

The only way the 720 could be any noticeably more powerful is if it was more expensive. Surely if they put in 12GB of DDR5 Ram, that's bound to bring the price up to the $500 to $600 price range. Now they could decided to take a loss on each console sold, but would they really be willing to take a significant loss on each one after what happened with rlod? The current prices for 360s suggests otherwise. So, I wouldn't look for it to be drastically more powerful if it is more powerful.

Then you've got the fact that they still also have to become synonymous with more than Halo and Gears to really catch on worldwide to avoid a repeat of this gen.

What was the repeat of this gen?  Selling, 3x the amount as last and still selling. Getting a big portion of sony's exclusive's to come on over to 360. Making a sh-t ton of cash and lets not forget that they have been building up studio's. As I see it, they have positioned themselfs great for the next generation. If they have as much success in how much they progressed. Next gen is going to blow up for them.

I agree they need more first party support but to avoid the level of success and progress is putting your head in the sand

o

Yeah, doing all that and at the end of the day still being beaten by the Playstation 3.  And there's really no reason to suspect that xbox will blow up next gen because they don't have the momentum on their side now or they'd be winning the console race each and every week, but they're not coming out on top each and every every week these days in the dedicated console market are they?  Somebody else is.

You have no clue what your talking about.... . .  LOL. You think PS3 Share holders only care about the units moved, They also care about the profits made off of each unit moved. Which in this case, ps3 has lost a massive amount of money and massive amount of their market share.

Your argument is so , that you only care about who wins. Not the cost to sony and their business. They have another gen like this and it will be over. Lets also not forget if MS has progress like this gen, they will be on top and shitting out money. PS3 Lost 5 billion dollars but all you can talk about is something that hasn't even happened yet. You don't think the anouncement of the PS4 is going to gimp sales of the ps3. PS3 has not passed MS and MS's profit margin on each system sold, is way more then that of PS3. So celebrate your little party but the joke is on you.

iam not ignoring... its a fact, the leap is there on sony, MS and nintendo new consoles (bigger is Sony and MS, but nintendo users are fine with that and so should everyone else). what i was debating with you its the "but" you imply in the end of your sentences.
no bigy. MS will state also that has 8Gbs of memory and its not going to give any words on the OS footprint because its unnecessary. if the gamers want the "behind the scene" features, they will use resources, but its for "the better experience", its a package, games + feat. the whole memory its needed for that, so they brag about the whole memory... its not a sony exclusive, its not a games industry exclusive, its not even a business exclusive...

I agree with that.  Every company makes things look better than what they are.  I am jist explaining what it actually means though because people dont know.

i think you are giving to little credit to people here, here people knows about OS and some other stuff... that was my issue with the whole thing.
the ones praising PS4 memory to the heavens do know about OS and shared memory between CPU and GPU, and yet they feel its awesome, and it is, not as much as some mitgh believe, but in the end, it is...
relax... you will feel all that awesomeness when MS anounce, in the mean time, let others have their fun...

The meltdown would be epic. Why isn't there a meltdown already? The most powerful console has never won.

The console with the best combination of games/technology/price has always won.

We can assume PS4 will have the games and technology. It sure as hell won't have the PS3's price problems. So I'd say the odds are pretty good. The next Xbox also has a high chance to win next-gen. A $50 price difference won't matter, it will come down to exclusives and marketing.

What exclusives do Sony have so far for the ps4? MS have something like 5 in the works with there own studios and Destiny might/probably will be timed.

MS will easily beat Sony out for marketing too, then the price will also be in their favor. MS are in a really good position.

Sony are in a good spot to though. It will be interesting.

LOL!

Destiny has already been revealed to be comign to PS4. It will even have exclusive content. You should have watched the Playstation Meeting.

It's funny how you say that MS has 5 exclusives in the works yet completely ignore the PS4 exclusives ALREADY ANNOUNCED with more to come at E3.

Announced PS4 exclusives

-Knack
-Killzone Shadow Fall
-inFamous Second Son
-Drive Club
-The Witness

I'd say Diablo 3 as well but that is already on PC. I

I know it is, did they say when? Saying it's going to be on the ps4 without actually giving a release date still could mean it's timed. You're right though. I haven't watched the conference.

If its timed, its timed exclusive for PS4/PS3, not Xbox 720 or 360.

Tha'ts impossible. The whole system is built to get arond the DDR3 RAM limitations. They can't just switch to GDDR5 lmfao. There is also no "little tiny improvement" that will somehow make it more powerful than the PS4.

As much as I respect you, I have to say to you: This is no "lmfao" matter, Microsoft will not want to look like "the brother with the tiny dick" in the next gen man, and I say that as a day one PS4 buyer, they will have better specs.

Wishful thinking. If they do have better specs, don't expect the next Xbox until 2014.
